89 Bilstein Accord front/91 CRX koni yellow rears...It rides F**CKING NICE!!!
I just took my first drive with this setup, and all I can say is wow! I am lowered about 2.5-3", and even going over very large bumps, the car isn't disrupted at all!
Skunk2 coil-over setup.
89 Accord Front shocks. Bilstein heavy duty's.
91 CRX Koni yellows (set on med. firmness).
The handling is great. The car doesn't get disrupted in the turns like it used to. With the old setup, hit the smallest bump and the car was hard to control. Now, it takes every turn smooth as hell, and just asks for more. I have kept the Bilstein rubber bump stops on the fronts, and therefore, has prevented the upper A arms from hitting.
All in all, I would reccomend this setup to ANYONE. The performance and ride is great!.
This is an old pic, but it gives a good idea how much I'm lowered.

Oh yeah, I guess I should say that I have a Jim Fab as well. I'm sure that helps a little...
89 fronk shocks work? whats the difference? Did you use the accord forks too?
How come you didnt use konis up front?

yeah what's the difference? why use the accord fronts? isn't the stroke different form the civics? , very interesting, want to know, cause getting my skunk2's pretty soon, GSR coils though, so a little rougher from the start. trying to decide on what shock, leaning towards bilsteins or tokico blues.

the accord shocks add an ectra 1" of travel so your not riding on bumpstops. the rears are the same as oem tho.

I didn't get the Koni's up front because they were on back order for 4 months...
Oh well. The bilsteins will do fine. I paid about 220ish for them.

why just show people, just cause the car would ride low. What about performance, would you blow them out as easily as a regular oem shock. Whats the durability.Cause otherwise its something I would be interested also. tooo bad they are not adjustable.
well the shock is performing in it's specified range, and bilsteins from what I have found, do quite well with a higher spring rate (not as good as koni's I know).
I Don't know exactly why Ham'ed hatch only reccomended his setup for show, but I think it was because he was having the A arms hit the strut tower.
You are definetly less likely to blow out the Accord shock than the CRX shock, lowered at the same height.

i found out that http://www.eshocks.com is the cheapest for bilsteins ($95 each + free shipping)
They do, but they don't have the lower nut welded to the strut. You could easily get around that however, by just going to the hardware store and buying 2 lock nuts.
I felt it would be eaiser for instillation/disassembily, if I went with the CRX rears.

fyi, i don't think the accord rear struts give you any increased shock travel like they do on the fronts. i am not 100% sure about this, but i think that is what i read before.

Do you always have a problem with the control arms hitting the strut towers? Or was that just Ham's problem???? I want to know because I'm thinking of doing this but I don't want to cut my strut towers like he did.
Breaka...
Yeah the rear accords are the exact same length...nothing gained.

I have yet to hear or feel the A arms hitting the upper strut mount. This was just Ham's problem mainly because he was lowered so far, and did not put on front bump stops.
If you keep the bump stops, and don't lower anymore than 2.5", you should be fine...

Cool, thanks. Well I guess I know what I am getting ordered tomorrow
Now I have to try to find my old forks, right now I have GSR struts in the front and this crappy winter and being lowered about 2.5"-3" aren't a good combo.Damn potholes.

I just went to Tokiko's site and they have Tokiko blues for the 89 Accord... just not the Illumina adjustables.. Oh well.
You said this was a BOLT ON installation, right? This might be my ticket to resolving alot of front end problems I've been experiencing...
