Who wants an eCutout downpipe?
Me and st00pid are thinking about fabricating some eCutout downpipe setups similar to mine, and I'm trying to gauge how much interest there is out there. And I need to know what setup you guys are running In a nutshell, what I have in mind is just a 3.0" dumptube with an integrated eCutout, and a small 2" downpipe that leads to your stock exhaust. This system will most likely a/c compatible, but that will depend on different factors such as what manifold you're running and what turbine housing you have. For now we're going to keep the target audience small just to see how things work out. If there's enough interest, we can start making the eCutout downpipe/dumptubes for other setups as well. But even with the 6 choices listed below, it's almost a "build to order" process for us as it is.
Here's a couple pics that I have of the first prototype that I'm using on my car now. The finished product will look a lot prettier though

Basically this system will outflow any other 3.0" catback exhaust solution available, period. At the flick of a switch you can route the exhaust back through the quiet factory stock exhaust and (theoretically anyway) even pass emissions.
Because people run a lot of different exhausts, we probably won't be able to make a bolt-in plug & play solution -- you will probably have to get a muffler shop to make a short section of pipe that will bolt up to our downpipe to whatever exhaust you're using. But 95% of the work will be done by just bolting up our eCutout dumptube/downpipe. I'm looking at a cost of right at about $400. Would anybody be interested in this?

Interesed in the inline pro/ with 5bolt turbo. Being a/c compatible, this wouldn't allow for a 3inch like your right since it is a 5 bolt turbo? Paul
so that big pipe is blocked off and all the extra exhaust goes throught the smaller 2" pipe? Can you explain to me how that outperforms any 3" downpipes? no flame/sarcasm intended, i just dont get it
<~~~ Still a n00b
I'd be interested sometime this summer....

Given the fact that many people already have cutouts, I think we'll offer the dumptube/downpipe with or without the eCutout (or manual cutout).
The way the system functions is like this: With the cutout closed, all the exhaust gets routed through the 2" downpipe out to the stock exhaust (or whatever exhaust you happen to use). With the cutout open, all the exhaust gets dumped straight out through the 3" dump. It creats virtually zero backpressure downstream of the turbine, resulting in the highest flow possible. I hope this helps

just had a thought ...Thought it might be cool to somehow wire it to the VTEC signal so that the e-cut opens when the engine switches to hi-cam mode....sorry...just a thought...

will it help much if i already have a 3" thermal exhaust?
Would it be possible to get the ecutout setup with a short piece of SS 3" pipe with a flange on one side and a 45 deg angle on the other?, so i can just weld up to my downpipe

If you want to save a few bucks, get in on the group buy and get the "Y-pipe" section along with it. I think it's an extra $20 or so. You can just interject it in the straight section of your downpipe. It won't sound as cool as a short path dump tube, but you'll get the nearly the same flow
We haven't started fabing them up yet. Just gauging interest right now. Once we get some votes in on what the popular combos are, we'll start jigging things up. Looks like there's substantial interest though so far!
Why would anyone in their right mind want this cork on their exhaust. I can't even imagine the backpressure that this monstrosity creates. Can you say burnt exhaust valves?
Read Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost", and then re-examine this whole concept.
This design is completely inconducive to flow. But makes a hell of a cork!

regular driving looks a bit painful with the exhaust gases traveling out from the turbo at 90degrees from the 3" e cutout open d/p to the 2" dp when the cut out is closed...
