gsr dash cluster into 89 hatch
hey, i know ive seen the swap done before. i want to put a gsr dash cluster into my 89 dx hatch. how hard is it to do? is it a simple clip in or do i have to do some wiring?
simple wiring, but ALOT of it. as far as the ESS i have NO clue on how to do that. I just used a 90-93 cluster because it had a cable speedo. The wiring is basic matching of wires and splicing together....thats as much help as i can be

here you go Outluded: (You would need an electronic VSS from a 92+ civic dseries and a 94+ GSR cluster harness also get a cluster cover from a 90-91 hatch the gsr cluster will not fit into the 89 cluster cover)
any question email me: siderazeref9@aol.com
be easy and take your time
But if you dont wanna go through all this trouble get a 90-93 integra cluster because of the cable vss instead of electronic vss you will still thought need a 90-93 cluster harness and rewire i dont have that diagram but i know someone here has it.
Here's a diagram pin side integra cluster 96 I think. However I know between 94-97, and 98+ the fuel gauge and other warning lights are in different locations. So I think if your cluster is 98+, switch b1 and b3 around on this diagram. I had to adjust mine when i went from 94 jdm cluster to 98 type r cluster. I think if your looking at the back of the cluster you can start left to right b1, b2

After hours of wiring i found out how simple it is.....I'll have to look at my cluster and figure out what wires were switched but pretty much everything matches color to color except 2 wires...
also electronic VSS is easy too as long as long as you have the plug, again just drop it into your tranny and then you are running 3 wires, 1 is a black ground, on is power which taps into your Gauge cluster power wire, and 1 is a signal wire that hooks up to Orange i believe...
really really simple the hardest part is fitting it in their properly i had to take out stock mounts and cut ears off the sides of the GSR cluster but it looks real nice..
DO NOT USE THE DIRECTIONS FOUND AT...http://www.angelfire.com/dc/oregonimport/gsr1.html
thats what turned an 30 minute job into about 3 hours of hasseling.

no i said don't use those instructions they are just confusing and incorrect and the 90-93 cluster should fit exactly the same as the 94+ however you wont need to convert to electronic VSS you can just use your cable driven VSS. for the speedo
well the 90-93 cluster didnt fit very well into my sedan dash. if it does in the hatch dash is a totally different story. Was way easy to wire and everything but fitment is a BITCH lol
i found out just like you did 94+ cluster didn't fit too well into my sedan...looks really nice though, amber glow and all its just that at the sides and bottom fuel/temp gets cut off a bit and ebrake/high beam lights do to...
Thanx for the diagram. Anyone tell me how well the 90-93 cluster fits???
I am the one who wrote the instructions on http://www.angelfire.com/dc/oregonimport/gsr.html how ******* hard is it? Its only took me 30 mins to wire it up using that same wiring diagram. vss is easy it goes ground black. signal white/blue on most and power blue/yellow.. Also those directions I made are only for 90-91

go there scroll down its installed but not in the dash and its is my complete write up on how to swap in the 90-93 cluster into a 88-89 civic

it looks great in a 90-91 car, but i wanna see how the cover fits in the 88-89 car. i hear that there's a gap left, when using the 90-91 cover in a 88-89 car! tha's why i would like to see it in a 88-89 car!
I love that!!!!!
to you!!!
yeah, it does look good. wow. i still want to see a DA cluster in an EF though.

well here is my 97 gsr cluster in 89 hatch with a 90-91 hatch cluster cover
do not use the cluster cover from a crx u will have a gap if u use that one.
cluster cover from hatch for hatch
cluster cover from crx for crx
and now here is the pic:
the defroster works cause when i got the 90 hatch cluster cover i also got the harness with the switches i have the harness for the hazards switch im gonna wire it so that i can use the switch on the cover instead of the one on the steering wheel column.
BTW: I will be repainting the vents black...........
