GUTTING MORE WEIGHT OUT OF THE TYPE R.
Hey, Just looking for some more ideas on what to gut out of the car. I thought I saw it covered a while back, but I couldn't find it through the search. Right now I have a carbon fiberhood, ac is out, power steering pump out, rear seats, rear panels. I think I weighed most of it. I think I got close to 150-200 pounds out. (that is also with the weight reduction of getting a different exhaust) I am going to pull the rear wiper off, and I am thinking about the antena if I can get one that doesn't go up and down, but other than this, is their any other ideas?? Sorry about the essay.
the passenger seat out at the track or race seats much lighter, carbon fibre hatch or fiberglass, lexan windows or if you want to go ***** out put a 1.5 liter engine the one known for being the big tourqe machine i bet that will work LOL
he could just swap the engine and tranny of the ITR into an Insight body...then do some weight reduction on it and it would be like a slightly oversized bike...

Don't laugh. I was actually thining that an FI 1.6 for my R. Seriously! It's cheap, plentiful, powerful, LIGHT and I wouldn't cry if I blew one up. Can you say "nice weight distribution"? Especially with a cage. Plus that would be the biggest extended middle finger to the rice crowd. And who's going to steal your car? Maybe paint it day glo orange too. Yeah.
I can't tell if I'm being serious or not...

Forged rims will save a lot of unsprung weight. Same with aluminum brake calipers (spoon).
Have you changed the header yet? The stock one is a monster.

Yeah, i have taken the manifold off, and replaced it with a JUN header. I am planning on getting some lightweight wheels in the future. It would be awesome if I had the money for those spoon calipers, they're awesome.
There are so many ways to take weight off these cars it's never ending.
Well over -200 lbs and counting, And I still have most of the interior, PS, A/C, and a first generation in effective ABS to change out.
How about tow hooks, brake splash guards, engine lift hooks, shift linkage counter weight, lighten the battery tray...................Can't tell you every thing!

Even this, it all adds up!

And then power it with this!

Yank the ABS modulator out, as well as all the ABS wiring and computer.
You'll need Integra RS proportioning valve and hard brake lines.
You can get by with using your master cylinder if you feel like slighly bending lines, or just use a RS master cylinder. Straight bolt up.
Pull the obvious front and rear bumper supports, A/C, etc.
Put a 92-95 Civic manual rack in it. The manual rack itself is way lighter than power steering rack.
And go lik Big Phat R said, some nice lightweight wheels. But there aren't many wheels that look as nice as stock ITR wheels. Hard decision.
Good luck.

power steering pump out........
power steering pump out........Hey, what did you do with the P/S fluid? Did you swap the whole steering rack?
You need a little bit of fluid in the rack to prevent rust.

-who like to search....
It will fit with the correct swivel joint...
The ratio is very bad in a very wrong way. I think the most common thing is to disable the ITR rack and leave it on the car. It has the better ratio.
The CX/VX can accept the ITR rack. That is the more common swap and would be a worthwhile upgrade.

arren123: The formula I was taught is .1 for each 100 lbs.
Let's say for an example, a '94 GSR runs 15.1 in the 1/4 mile. It weighs approx 2655 lbs. That same engine swap in a '92 Civic CX that weighs only 2155 lbs runs 14.6. (500 lbs = .5 in the 1/4 mile)
Sound about right? I think so.

Isn't it better to have abs than to take it out, and also if you took the bumper things out you would be screwed if you got hit. Right??
itr1236, you mentioned replacing the antena with a fixed one, I take it that means you still have the stereo in???, why not take that out, theres a reasonable amount of weight in that

It's better to have ABS for most drivers, and most probably on the street. BUT a good driver can stop shorter without ABS than he could with it. ABS modulates the brakes for you, but not as effectively as you could do it yourself (providing you were an excellent driver).
Taking the "bumper things" out would be bad if you got in front or rear end collision.
What's the lightest that any ITR, with full metal body (not jacket) still, has been weighed at?

Removing the driver and passenger seats is good for about 70lbs -- 35 lbs each. I also removed all of the AC/heater motors and gadgets from under the dash.

all that is is a bunch of metal
