Default Rota 15X7" update

Just a small update. Price of the wheels, which are going to be hubcentric per application, will be under $115 plus tax & shipping.

No new news on production date @ this point. When there is firm info on that I will update.

In addition to the posts, I have had several IM's about different bolt patterns & sizes being made. I will try to post some info about it here since I am sure many will look @ this update.

The 15X7" Rota deal has been in the works @ least two months before the GRM 'news item'. As detailed before, there are different ways to get a wheel built. You either need to buy a mold or convince the company there is enough interest for them to be profitable. If a individual (or business entity) buys the mold, they have much more control. They also must invest more $$ which in most cases will not make it profitable. In other words, there is an definite investment in time & $$.

The most (non 4X100) request have been for 5X114 patterns (ITR & Preludes). The problem is that, compared to cars that use the 4X100, there aren't very many of them. Now, you take the percentage of those cars that will buy this particular wheel & it is even a smaller group. If someone were to pony up the $$ to have it done, you would want to be sure that they are sold or you will be sitting on them for quite a while in the present economy. For a small business, it is not an insignificant amount of money.

I have approached my sponsors about paying to have a run of 15X7's made with the 5X114 bolt pattern. They are hesitant because they have worked for 10 years to establish a good rep. They don't want to disappoint the customers. Here is how it could happen. He said that if people wanted the wheel, they must be willing to put down a 'decent' deposit. Now here is the problem. While Rota is an reputable company, there could be unforseen delays. These delays could be materials, machining, shipping, customs, etc. Right now, with the 15X7 4X100, they haven't taken any orders yet because they don't have a firm date on when they will actually be here. Since they would need to require a deposit to cover themselves on a 'special' run of the 5X114, they would want to give the customers an est. date of arrival. Would the customer be willing to wait for say (# taken out of thin air) 2 months with the possibility of them arriving sooner?

Yea, it's funny that MachIII has been selling off those wheels for about 3 years now and all of the sudden everyone gets intersted in them...

I think you'd be surprised how quickly you'd get ITR orders for a 15x7 Rota wheel.
I'd have to agree with George on this one. They'd have no problems turning a profit on the 15x7's w/ 5x114 bolt patterns. There's definitely a good demand for these.

Agreed with George.

15x7"? You get 'em in black and I'll take 'em. I might even take 2 sets. I was always interested in the rota's and heard about the 15x7" somewhere, maybe GRM or was it the NASA rag? And I know I can get a few other R guys to take some.

I don't see any tires listed on the Auto Innovations website. Will it not be possible to get azenis mounted prior to shipment?

Also, any word on weight yet?

Thanks,
Phil

Pretty much any tire is available from AI.

I know this should be obvious but.....Please be aware that 'packages' will end up weighing more & shipping cost will be more since that is how UPS, etc determines the fees. Shipping charges are not marked up by AI.

News Flash: Auto Innovations has the exclusive rights to the first shipment. Wheels are entering production next week. Email Steve@Autoinnovations.com to get on the list. Please note number of wheels & color in the email.

No numbers on the weight of the wheels @ this point. I (we) don't expect them to be too much heavier. I don't really want to quote any weights until we get them on our scale.

5X114 guys/gals: We are waiting on a answer back on the min. # of wheels to do a run in this bolt pattern in 15X7.

edit: spelling

Who is the moderator for the ITR forum? It has been suggested that I post info there regarding the need for 5X114 15X7. Or are you guys going to buy them all?

I would guess a min run would be 40 wheels.

Here is the list of moderators for the ITR forum:

94Accord, Arturbo, GSRwBOOST, Hybrid ctr, Jason, Lip, Mike M, Reid, sgT, yoshi234.

I would speak with yoshi234, or Mike M, but sgT and Reid could help you. Dependent upon pricing I do not think that you will have an issue selling the rims, but we'll wait to see what the response will be.

Austin - who is interested

This is buried in the thread.

Once you find out a minimum number for a run of 15x7 5x114, you should post something in the R forum. I know I'd buy a set and from talking about this at the Expo with a good number of people, I'm not the only one.

There are NO budget-minded 15x7 5-lug rims available any longer, I'm fairly certain you could sell 40 sets, or more.

Chris - who is patiently waiting on the 5-lug run numbers...
