Default New Style B20VTEC Header

I offer (2) primary types of B20VTEC headers that run under the oil pan along with side exit versisons. One can only be used with a custom Moroso oil pan built to my specs which provides near stock ground clearance as shown in the picture below.

The 2nd version is used with the stock oil pan which had the primaries hanging well below the stock oil pan due to the size of the primaries and packaging of the tubes. This design was modified and now provides much improved ground clearance as compared to the older version.

The following B20VTEC header will be used in a 99 Civic Coupe. The stock radiator will be replaced with a thin version since I brought the tubes out as far as possible to utilize large radius bends which are very important to flow as are keeping the number of bends to a minimum.

Header Front, #4 tube comes out past the clutch slave cylinder.

Ground Clearance, this is with 1/4" to 3/8" clearance between tubes #2 & #3 and the oil pan.

Looking good as always. Saw a SMSP b20vtec header at import builders and I must say it looked intimidating.

Will this make anymore power than the Moroso Version? Or just a different design?

The one you are getting uses the same size radii for all the bends, so there will be no difference in power. On tighter set ups I have to go down 1 step in radius for the bends to make everything clear.

As with any header the tighter the bends the more it can hinder flow. Any bend will change the direction of flow and mixing will result. The temperature of the exhaust through the tubes is not constant at a given cross section since the gases along the tube walls are "cooler" than the core flow. So, bends and merges will promote mixing which results in cooling of the core flow. Tighter bends will do a "better" job at mixing the gases which results in an even cooler gas flow and I expect everyone knows that it's better to keep the gases hotter for a longer period of time to promote flow.

Any pricing information on the non-Moroso unit?

Not sure just yet, but some changes. May benefit on the current motor just from a longer, not so sharp, bend like you have on this current b20 header. May also benefit with larger primaries on the current setup. Engine is choking up top, and if I remove the exhaust and run open header, it makes no difference in power. Which tells me there is a bottle neck before the exhaust, or the exhaust is just that darn good...

A customer with a B20 header and one of my 2-1/2" exhausts only saw about a 1-2 peak whp difference (from what I recall) when he ran open header and the engine was putting out about 230whp. We may try a 3" system on the car, now that I have a 3" resonator to fit in the tunnel without dragging on the ground.

I did not see any peak difference, and the graphs were almost identical. Not even a torque difference. That disturbs me, makes me think there is a restriction somewhere...

Well I'm running 2 3/4 till my cat and it bumps up to a 3 from the cat back and I still fell on my face at 8200.
I dont think it's anthing to do with the the header or exhaust.
Jason , you wouldnt happen to be running a 89mm crank in your setup would you, I think our problem has more to do with the stroke of our engines.

Someone else here mentioned one of there problems on their race motor was, that they were actually overcamming there setup because there head and header flowed so well that the bigger cams were causing it to fall on its face. He found better results with a smaller street cam.
Any thoughts to all that guys.

Yup, running the LS crank, 89mm stroke. What are you thinking?

The header was the same color as the one in the pics above. I saw this header a year ago when I was at IB getting my b20 built. Unfortuneatly I had to sell the b20 but I will be buying an itr motor with the money I got. Hopefully an SMSP header will be in my engine bay sometime in the future.

OT:

Dave do you make full exhausts for the 92-92 Civic HB?

Also what are your thoughts about exhaust cut-out's?
