2.5" mandrel bent piping with stock muffler?

Would it be possible to use my stock ITR muffler with some custom bent 2.5"mandrel bent tubing? I want to maintain a sleeper look and sound without sacrificing much performance. Does the stock muffler flow enough to suit my needs? I'm currently running Skunk II stage one cams.
What about 2.5" inch piping with a 2.5" baffled muffler? Would you see any gains from that. The stock muffler has a pretty big bottle neck especially for the 2.5" piping. Doesn't it neck down to 1 7/8", that would be a big change.
I am searching for a pretty quite performance exhaust too... I have to drive my car on the freeway 50 miles everyday, and the exhaust noise would get a little annoying.

I would assume you'll still be bottlenecking the system. I'd suggest an aftermarket Muffler, just look for a straight through design and an oval can. Then paint it flat black or something dull to get the OEM look. Dont forget a resonator to help keep the noise down. Of course if you get really straight through flow, it will always be louder than stock.
Go w/ 2.5" mandrel all the way back to an es (or something) painted flat black. You could even throw a stock looking tip on it.

Does it bottle neck down inside of the muffler or are you guys talking about the actual piping before it enters the muffler? I was talking about competely cutting away the stock piping and cutting a 2.5" hole in the stock muffler then just welding the piping to it.
both. the flange is bottlenecked, and the piping inside of the muffler is small too - its designed to be quiet and unobtrusive.
if you just throw 2.5" piping inside your ITR muffler, it'll prolly be pretty loud i am guessing...

When I first got my SMSP header, I tried somethign similar to what you are thinking. I cut out the OE resonator and added a 2.5" section of piping. The note was rather raspy and got annoying. PS: I had Toda B's too.

Two weeks later I got Dave to make me a proper 2.5" exhaust. We sprayed it flat black and welded on my OE ITR tip. Mine only used a 14" resonator but with a 22" resonator it sounds pretty stock. Made a significant difference in the upper rpm band (butt-dyno). Never dynoed the OE set-up.

I'm selling a test system that I had on George Knighton's car. Below are a couple pics of the muffler. All the tubing is mandrel bent. The B pipe starts at the center tunnel hanger location. The B pipe has a 18" Magnaflow resonator and a short Walker resonator in the stock location. All the tubing was aluminized (since it was a test system) and the welds were mig (quick and cheap....again it was a test system). Nothing about the tubing is pretty but it does flow and the rear muffler looks stock. It's got a 2-3/4" tip.

I'm going to do the 2.5 straight pipe from the exhaust manifold to the stock muffler, Hopefully I will have this done before the expo...
I am also going to see if the shop will be able to expand the bottleneck in the stock pipe.

DC has an Integra application, they just haven't updated their website. I have the HyTech which is also twin-loop and I'm real happy with it.
edit- The muffler canister isn't just a big hollow can and welding 2.5" tubing won't do the trick. But there are tubes and chambers inside the can, I believe measured at 1.75" like mentioned before. Bottleneck for sure.

magnaflow i'm guessing.
.....honestly, these days everybody and thier mama has a catback - so anything off the shelf or custom 2.5"+ is sleeper on an import.
I mean, you have a freaking yellow car! lol
My last setup turned out to be quite pleasing: 2.5" mandrel bent piping, exhaust cutout, magnaflow 22" straight through resonator, and n1 turbo can. I found a recent video that I took of my car at idle, and it just warms my heart.....
Man, it sounds so nice and low and deep... harley riders are green with envy! I am gonna use this same setup - maybe add another resonator to make it even more quiet. And I have the silencer for the n1 can should I require some serious silentness.....
Get a quality exhaust man - or leave it stock!
