Default My Phillips HID kit arriving Mon. Any install do's and don'ts?

Well I'm getting my kit in next monday. I will be installing it myself. I was wondering if you guys that have already installed yours had any things that I should look out for. Things that you kicked yourself for doing. I know that I do some pretty stupid things sometimes and wished that someone had told me not to do so.

I remember when I installed my s2k antenna I managed to break the freaking gas tank release.

Well thanks in advance...I can't wait to get my kit!

Don't touch the bulb
Use a 15amp fuse for the lights (mine said to use a 20amp, but the 15 works fine)

Thats about it, its pretty much an easy plug in and play. I mounted one balest under the ABS unit and the other behind the wipper fluid bottle.

In my manual, it said when you first turn them on, you should leave it on for 5 minutes. Something like to "breaking it in" or something. I am not sure if I even did this but mine still works fine after a year.

Yeah I know...I'd love to swap out the stock projectors, but that's too much damn work and money. Thanks for the tips guys.

My suggestion to all HID owners is to never shut them off right away after turning them on. Let the lights turn on for about 1 min or so which is warming up the ballasts and then shut them off. It's good to let the HID lights reach it's max first!!!

Another thing, how are you installing them? I definitely took the time and patience to remove my bumper and install the ballasts behind the bumper instead of having the ballasts sit under the hood. This is a good way to make your engine bay clean and stock looking...........GOOD LUCK DUDE!!!!!!!!!

I got my full phillips kit from a friend that owns a shop for $390 even tax included. I'm installing it on the USDM front end.

When installing the bulb in the burner do not over twist and break the notches on the bulb, you will then need to replace the bulbs.

Did the same thing, but I didn't need to replace the blub. Just ensure that the buld is properly sitted and stable.

I thought about doing this myself because I don't like how the drivers side ballast is mounted (I couldn't find a better location). Plus I need to remove it to fix my horn anyways and clean the K&N. (need as in, easier than removing other **** to get to the airhorn relay, motors, etc. It takes 2-3 minutes to remove the bumper)

No, its the red peice that you put the bulb into and then you stick the whole assembly into the headlight housing and twist to lock in place.

Pay attention to the Instructions and follow them Carefully!

The hardest part of the process is finding a location for the Ballast, but that's all subjective to one's needs.

Sorry I used the wrong terminiology.....coming out of the ballast will be a long black cord that leads to the ignitor(red peice), the bulb aka burner goes into the ignitor and locks into place. Once you have the bulb plugged into the ignitor you take the whole peice and lock it into the headlight assembly. This will all be obvious when his Phillips kit arrives....quite simple, just make sure, as said above, that the bulb is not over torqued into the ignitor.

I mounted both ballasts in the fender-well to achieve not only a clean look, but a 5-0 free look. I didn't want any problems with cops bugging me.

this MIGHT not be a problem since you have an R.. but, you should try it out anyway.. only takes a few seconds:

when installing the HID's, use your existing rubber O-rings from your halogen low beam bulbs and slide them onto the base of the bulb.

some people (mostly LS/GSR integra owners) including myself have noticed an unstable fit, kinda shakey - not like stock bulbs... but using the rubber O rings corrects this problem and fitment is... :fizzle:

do everything slow, wear latex gloves, just in case you touch your bulb you won't have a greasy finger print. try your best to NOT touch the bulb.

grab a helms and adjust your headlights on a level surface immediately after install.. I found myself driving around for a few months with the headlights too low (better than too high I guess).

Then I got a helms, followed the directions.. and WHOA the road is so much more efficiently lit up when adjusted correctly

good luck!!.. if you have any questions during the install, feel free to ask.

//Alex

About the whole touching the bulb thing...Is it better to just go ahead and clean the bulb with some rubbing alcohol before installing it into the headlight housing to make sure there is nothing on the bulb? Or if I don't touch it assume that it's clean and just install it. In other words should I assume that there is nothing on the bulb coming straight from the factory?
