I have a Acura TL HID kit that I've been using in my Civic with the h4 ring glued onto the d2r bulbs... will i need d2s bulbs for use in the JDM ITR housings? what bulb type is in there standard (9005/9006??). are there adapter rings to mount the d2? bulbs in the 9005/9006 housings?
TIA for the advice...

The JDM non-HID housings are 9006's...simply convert them to that and you will be fine....

D2R will give you a bad beam. Sure it will be bright but also all over the place.

Wow, someone else that has the same setup as me. Cool.
My HID's were off the Acura CL-S.
Ok. i don't have any pics so hang in there and try to have an imagination k?
This is how i did it. I recently did this and the beam pattern still sucks but i got the bulbs in there and i can see pretty good.
First thing you're gonna have to do is take the headlight off. Some stuff you'll need.
A) small phillips screwdriver.
B) Dremel or some sort of file so you can file away on the bulb
C)Rubber Piece of the back of the Civic Headlights ( one that covers the hole where the bulb goes in)
1)First thing you're gonna have to do is take off the the plastic ring off the back of the headlight housing where your 9006 bulb goes in. Its held on my 3 small Screws that have a phillips head.
2)Once you have it off, you can just trim a little bit off the actualy bulb. use the ring as a " diagram" of how a 9006 bulb fits. This is the tricky part. Use the Dremel and trim it a little bit so that the ring goes over the Rim of the D2S bulb. Its going to be a tight fit. Don't trim off too much. Look at the headlight housing and compare how the bulb fits it but don't trim off too much because on the back of the headlight housing itself, if the bulbs Rim is trimmed too much, it will go straight into the housing and it won't be tight fit.
3) the main objective is to make sure the HID bulb fits onto the back of the headlight housing against the hole so the bulb is as far in as it can go without damaging the housing. You will know what i am talking about after you take off the Ring on the back of the housing held on by 3 small screws. Once that is removed, you will see the inside of the housing and where the hole is, you want to make sure the HID bulb's Rim is flat against it all the way in so its flush. The actual bulb is a little big so trim it.
4) Once the bulb is trimmed, you will put the bulb into the housing and them once the bulb is flush against the housing, put the ring back on behind the hid BULB so
from the side its gonna look like this.
- Headlight ---HID bulb Flush into the hole---plasting ring
The Ring will hold the bulb tightly into place but do not trim too much off. Make sure the bulbs Rim is a tight fit into the hole because if the rim is trimmed too much, the Ring that will go on behind it will not hold the bulb into place.
5) using those Civic Round Rubber pieces you have, cut a small hole in the middle big enough for the HID cables to get through and stretch it out so you can fit the head of the adapter that connects the ballast to the bulb. this will be your weather proofing of the HID bulbs.
6) after this, make sure you re-adjust your headlights because the NON-HID headlight's beam cut off is different. It took me about an Hour to try and get the beam pattern right. its not anything like the true HID's but its as close as i can get.
The beam pattern's going to be a little off due to the nature of the housing itself. You can try experimenting with a dremel to see if you can cut some of the metal plates on the inside of the projector to modify the beam pattern.
my opinion about Acura OEM Hid's.
They are the best. Those were perfect because they retained good brightness ( unlike the 9000k ricer HID's ) when i had them on my USDM front end. Now i am running BMW D2R bulbs and they don't look as " clean" as my Acura ones. My opinion, those were the best. Not too blue, just enough blue. Take care of em.
here's a pic of them when i had my USDM front end with the Acura Bulbs.
I have yet to take a pic of my BMW bulbs with my non- HID JDM headlights.
Good luck with your project man.

I've noticed this about D2R bulbs compared to D2S (Reflectors vs. Projectors).
Many Acuras and other cars with reflector HIDs I see on the road don't have that great deep purple color. Since it is a reflector, it seems to be a little bit bluer and less intense in color as opposed to a BMW Projector which is a smaller area and the light is focused in a small point giving an awesome color!

Yeah, like the Lexus reflector HIDs. I parked next to my friends IS, and my 9006 4300k kit is much whiter and has a sharper cut off than factory Lexus reflectors, and this is with OEM projectors on the 'Teg!
first of all since you're using a d2r bulb, it will not give you a correct beam pattern because they have a shield over the bulb which is intended for non-projector lowbeams. Second, even if you did have the correct bulb, a d2s, the focal points will be different giving you a very uneven, possibly blinding light. Best bet is just sell the TL kit and just use a standard 9006 bulb HID kit for your non HID headlights.
