How To: Swappin JDM needles into USDM cluster
Just thought i'd post this for future reference for those of you who want to keep the MPH speedo while using JDM needles. This should take 30-45 minutes if you're working fast. Thanks to y0sh for the help and arno for the cluster
Things you'll need:
-fork
-screw driver
-Make sure to do this on a full tank of gas, it'll make putting the fuel needles alot easier.
**NOTE**
if you have a aftermarket steering wheel pull it off makes life easier. For those of you using the stock steering wheel, do a search on to how to pull the steering wheel.
1) Remove the top portion of the plastic covers that hold the steering column.
2) Remove the top 2 screws of the plastic cover that sits in front of the cluster.
3) Pull out the plastic piece, you're going to have to pull hard and mess with the position.
4) Remove the 3 screws that hold the cluster in place.
5) pull the cluster out and disconnect it (2 blue plugs, one yellow plug)
**NOTE**
you can use the USDM carbon fiber overlay or the JDM one, i chose to use the JDM one because it eliminates the SRS light, the ebrake symbol is different, and some of the other symbols are located in different positions. Also it makes your cluster look like a true jdm one.
6) this is a tricky part. remove the clear plastic cover of the cluster. Once doing this be VERY careful with the "fake" carbon fiber overlay because it's very fragile plastic.
7) once removing that use a fork to CAREFULLY pull of the needles. Try to use a fork with thin prongs and get fully underneath the needles and pull relatively hard. watch out cause the needle might go flying in the air. do this process for both clusters.
8) When swapping the needles, you must be VERY careful as to put them back exactly where they were on their previous clusters or you're gonna have a headache. once the needles are swapped don't plug the cluster back into the car.
9) To see if the needles are in their correct positions, turn on the battery, not starting the car, and see where the rpm and mph needles go to, if they go shooting up and stay at a very high position, pull them off while the battery is on and put them back to the correct position which should be at 0 rpm and 0 mph.
10) put everything back to how they were and pat yourself on the back, you've done a good job and now you are all growns up
than try to find a poor sucker that'll buy a JDUSDM cluster
This is what it looks like when the door is open, since the icons are located differently on the JDM overlay, weird **** will light up.

wait....why do you need to pull off the steering wheel to get to the cluster??? Last time I took out my cluster I just lowered the steering wheel and took it out. I think the steering wheel removal is an extra step that is not needed.

I think he maybe right, Joe!
If I remember correctly, after Yoshi initially put them on he noticed that the tach was slightly off. I know it went something like that. He then used a friends scantool and palm pilot to see the actual rpms and re-install the needles correctly.
Just so you know, I have been talking with Yoshi so much about Hondas that this actually stuck in my head from the moment I heard it. You might want to ask him to make sure.
The faux carbon overlay only broke, because you didn't unscrew the screws that were holding it on.
It's a strong piece.

the needles ARE NOT off. i already talked with y0shi, went on MANY drives already with it installed, this post is made WAAAY after i already made sure the needles are ok. the rpm is fine, the speedo is fine, the fuel is fine, the oil temp is fine. reason why it looks off is the engine is on warming up. Thanks for looking out the guys

i think you're just about done here. You can shut your hole now. why the hell are you writing a "how to", you dont even know what your doing.
I wanted to resort calling you a simple fucktard and not explaning your "oversight" to you in detail, but i decided, what the hell, now you can drive yourself crazy knowing you messed up your cluster.
Good job!
Btw, this rude commentary is due to your random, and annoying attacks upon other members on this board, not only me. I could give a rats *** if some chump over in CA talks trash to me, but some of the other crap you dish out to the members is just unprovoked and uncalled for

Today I installed my JDM cluster and gave my brother my cluster and I accidently mixed up the carbon fiber overlays. Now he has the JDM one on a USDM cluster and I have the USDM one on a JDM cluster.
I have to switch them now. The good news is that I took out my cluster so many time to get it to work that I could do it with my eyes closed.
Nice work on the cluster. If my brother didnt have white face gauges in his car to begin with I would have done this to keep my speedo.
