Default Opinion of Goodrige Stainless Steel Brake Lines and Questions.

I had bought these a while back new, and I just had them installed on my car by my dealer. I have to say the pedal feel really sucks. There is NO stoping what-so-ever when the pedal is pushed half way! When the pedal is pushed after that the car stops on a dime. It is very stiff and I have not gotten ABS to kick in when I slam on the brakes.
Is there a reason why the pedal is so soft for the first part and not the next? I trust that there are no air bubbles and such because they were installed by the dealer. But I can't even heal-toe now because the brake goes so damn low!

I hope this is something that can be fixed or esle these lines suck!

You need to bleed your brakes.

The brakes were totally bled, and new fluid was installed.

Maybe I'm makeing a big assumption here, if my dealer did not bleed them.

It does not matter if it was done previously.

You have air in your lines and you need to bleed your brakes again.

EDIT: Ok, I'll take car of it.

Can anyone just do this, or do I need to take it somewhere?

You should be able to just do it...
Get someone to help, jack up the car, then break out the haynes manual...
I have Goodridge lines, and I think they're awesome! The pedal grabs immediately, and there is absolutely no "mushiness" to the pedal at all. I had to bleed my brakes like 6 times before I got a stiff pedal
Was definately worth it though

Since you just changed your brake lines, I would make sure I do a VERY thorough bleeding.

Get a few bottles of your favorite brake fluid and a friend and bleed them until the feel comes back.

If the pedal still feels mushy after most of air has been bled out, try driving the car for a week or so and rebleeding it again.

It's going to be a little tough for me because of my time, but I'll pick up some Stock Brake Oil and see what's up. I know Austin has a Helms, so I'll learn how to do it myself.

Try bleeding your brakes. Brake lines can be easily felt when installed but will not cause THAT big of a problem if it were to be defective.

I did a search, and this is what I found.

Bleed order:

left rear
right front
right rear
left front

Note:It really does not matter from what I have gathered since helms says Front Left, Front Right, Rear Right, Rear Left.

Parts I need:

10mm.
3/8" tubing.
Lots of Extra Brake Fuid. (How much more?)
A empty bottle.
And a Friend.

Is there anything else I need?

I'm sure they bled it, otherwise it would have very little fluid in the lines.

Bleed the brakes yourself since you can be sure it's done right.

They did bleed them, and I'm not complaining since they did do it for free. It seems that they need to be bled alot before they are good and I don't have the time to be taking my car back and forth to the dealer. I need to learn how do things like this anyways. I'm not the type of person who calls a tow truck for a flat tire when I have spare in the trunk.

Based on your description, you have lots of air in the fluid. There's no leak in the system tho because if it does, the pedal would go all the way to the floor.

DON'T ASSUME that the dealer did the perfect job. I highly suspect that the mechanic just pulled the stock lines and replaced with the new ones (filled with brake fluid), then top off the cylinder.

Bring it back to the dealer (cuz u paid for it) or bleed it yourself. Don't drive like that on the street.....!

Good luck.

Not necessarily Reid. The stock lines can be clamped down with a vice grip and with quick hand swapping the line, the the fluid loss would be pretty small.

They did not just top it off because on the invoice it said new fluid. The fluid looks very clean for just topping off.

Please don't assume.....
You would be surprised to find an oil filter that has been on the car for 10K+ miles, while the invoice clearly says that you get a new oil filter when you do oil change at every 3K miles.....

I had the exact same problem with my brake lines. Just bleed them a few more times and you will be fine.

make sure you bleed them with the engine running, this will cycle any air out of the ABS module. (had this problem, long time ago...)
