2003 CTR in America??!!!

I agree, I just don't see why Honda would bring the Type R over given the poor sales of the Si. We shall see.
just wondering about this, since we have ITR's, why wouldn't they bring the new 02/03 ITR to US/Canada????
and since they never had the CTR here, why would they just bring it down now???

It probably didn't help the DC5 ITR's case for the US at all that the big tuners, like Spoon Sports, had the initial gut reaction that the DC5 suspension was inferior to the DC2 ITR, and that they would miss the DC2 ITR very much.
I've been hearing this response from almost every knowledgable DC2R owners. That the DC5R is inferior. And their biggest support for that opinion was from a comment Ichisima-san made. Where he says something along the lines of, "DC2R is a sports car, the DC5R is a sporty car."
Other than that single statement, I personaly have not heard/ read about any other Japanese tuner who shares the consensus feeling among DC2R owner that the new Type R was indeed inferior.
I must admit that the biggest concern among enthusiasts who actualy tracks (not drag
) their car is the mcpherson front suspension. But realisticaly, that could be overcomed with an aftermarket suspension. But besides that one "drawback", if one can call it that, everything else is far more superior than anything from the DC2R
If they did bring it over to North America, *and all of you should know this*, it probably won't be the same thing as the UKDM EP3-R.
Since we have certain laws/standards governing automobile production in N.A., they will probably have to modify the motor a wee bit - due to emission control standards, and they will have the put those f-ugly amber markers on the side of the front bumper, probably similar to the ones that the current EP3 Si hatch has.
Also, of particular concern to me, is that the bumpers will have to be modified, possibly pushed out by about 2 - 3 inches, as the standards for the re-bar in N.A. are much higher than in Europe/Asia. This will totally sacrifice the look of the car in my opinion, and I believe due to these technicalities, we will not be seeing Honda of North America market the EP3-R in this continent.

As to your comments about the looks of the car...I dunno. LOL... When I buy a Honda, I don't really care too much about the looks. What Honda's ever actually looked good?
And remember how awful everybody thought the EG hatch looked when it came out? Now they're a really hot property.

I could list a couple of Honda/Acura models that I believe looked/look good; 99-00 Honda Civic Si/SiR, 98-01 Acura Integra Type R, Acura NSX, Honda S2000, and so on.
And you are right - it does take a while for people to get in a way, 'used to the car'. The look must grow on them, and that takes a little while for some, a longer while for others.
I would love to buy one, except for one factor: THEFT.
As soon as those CTRs get here, they will start getting raped for their heads, LSDs, exterior bits, and anything else that JDM bandwagoneers consider an improvement over their Si EP3s.
If you buy one and live in CA, NY, NJ, VA, MD, TX, NC, or Canada, then watch out.

i think the benefit of a Civic over an Integra has historically been that the Civic is lighter. with the new ep's and the dc5's having almost the same weight, the benefit of buying a Civic just isn't there for me anymore. sure, i think it'd be cool to have an EP3-R, but as far as styling and comfort are concerned I'd much rather have a DC5-R if they are = on the performance level. just my $0.02 though...
Just wondering what the pricing is for the dc5? The dc2R when new was 23k and the ep3 is 19k correct? (I'm not talking about what people bought it at). I'm just trying to throw some cost into the debate. In the 30k range we have the s2k, 350Z, WRX sti and evo VIII...so it'll obviously sit in the 20-30k range, but with the rx8 in the 26ish range the pricing will also be a big concern (let alone the question of whether or not it'll come to US soil).... i wonder how the ctr competes with the other sporty hatches in the UK (i remember when it first came out it basically undercut all of them)
I got my DC5 Type S last year for $24k out the door with OEM under spoiler kit. Ive seen all kinds of prices, but lowest ive heard is $22k- so expect if a Type R version comes out 25-26k+....not worth it with the EVO and STi coming
EP3-R would be nice, but think about it. Do you really think there going to give us Recaro seating and the Type R pedal set among other things? If the CTR came over, there would be no point of an Si anymore.
Like one guy said, I think that mag was playing a nice april fools joke- its in the april issue, and they even say Honda has not confirmed a Type R coming over.

The STi is expected be in the mid thirties, not in the same price range....
