Who has a working S2K 'Engine Start' button in their ITR....??
G'day y'all,
Just curious to know who has fitted an S2K 'Engine Start' button in their ITR and their thoughts on it??
I've had mine fitted since May 2000 and think it was one of the coolest (albeit slightly 'rice') additions to my car!

I remember when it was the rage back when I was a noobie. I think it is a nice looking mod if you do it right.
it looks alright
but you can't use jdm fog switch unless u lose the dimmer

I just got mine installed like 2 weeks ago. I love it. It looks so much cooler than an empty spot and matches the rest of the red stuff in the car. It also lights up an amberish color almost as dark the rest of our interior lights. I have pics, but we-todd-did is down so im or email me if you guys want to see for now.

I do. Can't post pics, no wtdr.com or imagestation at the moment. I like it even though it doesn't do anything for my performance. It's better than the dummy plug.
I've always thought the start button mod was pretty cool... but turning the key works fine for me
Edit: I would like to see some pics though, curiosity killed the cat

The start button lights up with the rest of the dash? I thought it was just a button and no light.

My write up!
Instruction or installing an S2000 button on an Integra or Civic
I am not going into asthetics...you'll pretty much have to improvise on how and where you put the S2000 button.
1. First of all you should find yourself a good 3 pin connector that mates with the connection on the s2000 switch. I was told to use a fine soldiering iron to soldier wires directly to the pins.. When you get your switch, you'll immediately know why that's not a good idea. I used the power connector from an old floppy disk drive...suprisingly, its a near perfect fit. you can get these at any electronics shop or computer parts store...a cheap investment that saves about 40 minuts of pain!!
You can find photos here..so you can get an idea of what I mean: http://community.webshots.com/album/24162160XtOjUGCEzB
2. Things you should get:
-some kind of pin connector (about $1.00 at Radio Shack) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -Plastic wire splicers (a must; saves a lot of time) -Wire strippers -vinyl electrical tape (a nice to have) -needle nosed pliers (should have) -philips screw driver -flat head is also okay -scissors (should have) -wire tester (any kind will do, but not really needed)
3. With the smaller end of the connector faced upwards ( or the "ENGINE START" mark upside down) the wire schematics goes as follows: -far left pin = Ignition wire -second pin = 12V power
-third pin = ground wire
-pins 4 and 5 are for options that you will not use.
4. Remove the bottom panel (underneath the steering column) there should be like four screws that hold it in place. Remove the plastic panels off of the steering column too. There should be like 3 screws on the bottom panel that holds in place. Be careful when removing the steering column panels because there are plastic tabs that hold them together. Just carefully pry them apart.
5. The wiring under the dash, the fuse box, and the ignition switch should now be fully visible.
6. After you have found a good spot for your S2000 starter button and have wired attached the wires to the pins (connector) correctly, you will need to properly wire it up to the OEM wiring in you car.
7. Let's start with easy ones first. The wire that is coming from the 2nd pin should be spliced with a 12v power source. The power should be availble only when the ignition switch postion is turned to the "on" position. Usually, at this position all of the electrical devices in you car should power up. DON'T WIRE IT TO A 12V CONSTANT WIRE. This is constant electricity that is on at all time whether the key is turned on or not. If you have it wired to a constant 12v source, your starter motor will crank whether you have the turned or not, just by pressing the button...not very good theft protection!! I personally wired it the positive source to the cigarette lighter. But you'll get a better connection from the ignition switch at the ON terminal. Use a splicer to combine the wire from the S2000 swith with the 12V power source. To ensure a nice secure fit, wrap the splicer with a strip of electrical tape so it doesn't pop open when your driving.
8. Next, take the wire that is attached to the ground pin (3rd pin from the
left) on the S2000, and wire it to a ground source. Basically, anything that is metal that is linked to the car's chassis in some way makes a good ground. I took the wire, and attached to the metal bracket holding the fuse box in place. But you can also splice it to any gound wire as well.
9. At this point, if you are tired, take a break. The next part is the hard part!! On the ignition switch on your car, locate a black wire with an off-white stripe on it. THIS IS YOUR IGNITION WIRE. You'll notice that it will run with a bunch of other wires, coming from the ignition switch, into some thick black tubing. That tubing will seem to disappear underneath the dash and then reappear with a acouple other black tubings. The trick is to locate the right tubing and use your scissors to cut away about 2 or 3 inches to expose the wires inside. Again, you will need to locate that black wire with the white stripe. When you find it, half of your battle is over!!
CAUTION: Notice I mention black wire with white stripe several times...don't get this mixed up with the white wire with black stripe....if you wire this by mistake, you WILL damage the S2000 switch!!!! So do be careful!!
10. Splice the black and white stripped wire with the igition wire from the S2000 switch. ONE THING: A lot of people cut their OEM ignition wire completly so that the only way to start the car is by pressing the S2000 buttton like the S2000 (hence, disabling the OEM starter). I do not recommend this! Not only does it make it easier for thieves to hot wire your car, its also makes it a pain if something were to go wrong with the S2000 switch. Also, trying to mate up the 2 cut ends of the OEM ignition wires is really difficult so don't cut them. Splice them instead! Once the splicing is complete, its time to test it!! Turn the key to the "ON" position, and press the button. Your engine should start right up...if not you've got a loose connection somewhere.
A neat bonus which I didn't know is that the start engine sign on the S2000 switch lights up when you turn the panel lights on!!
have fun!
