Legend GS Calipers & Legend GS rotors on 5th GEN.
I know this topic has been covered, in depth, for the 4th gen, but I have some questions regarding installation on a 5th gen.
1. Do I need to use the Legend GS rotors, or can I retain the Prelude rotors?
2. Do I need any longer caliper bracket bolts? From an NSX maybe?
3. Is it a direct bolt on, or is there any machining involved?
Thank you.

From my understanding it's a straight bolt on and you can reuse most of the parts that you started with (bolts, etc) though personally I'd replace some of them since they're dealing with the brake system and brakes = life. You need to use the Legend rotors since the Prelude ones are too thin (5mm or so) and the offset won't be correct. No machining is required for this mod, just make sure that you rebuild the calipers.
I have heard of the NSX caliper conv. as well...are they any different than the Legend conv.
Is the reason for the legend conv. just price??

Thank you. From what I've read on the topic as it pertains to the ITR install the caliper bracket bolts are the same length, possible a different grade? Which parts would you suggest I replace?
As it stands, I will be buying : 95 legend GS sedan calipers (rebuilt per autozone), 95 legend gs rotors.

the nsx and legend caliper are the same casting, so, physically, it's the same caliper. however, the nsx calipers feature 'cooling vanes' and have the bleeder nipples in a different location , therefore you don't need to swap the nsx caliper right for left, and left for right to position the nipple correctly. also, legend calipers are ~ 90/each, nsx calipers are 230/each. both rebuillt from autozone.
Lastly, does anyone know if there is a difference on where I source my rebuilt calipers from? Autozone, kragen, napa, dealer?
Thank you.

The NSX and the Legend GS calipers are not the same. The Legend GS actually has a larger surface area than the NSX calipers. I don't believe (don't quote me on this) that you can switch the calipers around to get the nipple facing upward. You instead have to swing the caliper off, put a piston clamp on it and bleed it that way. It's very much like changing your brake pads if you're going to bleed the brakes. As per the bolts from my knowledge they're the same length at least with the NSX setup, I don't see why they'd change from the NSX to the Legend caliper. As per replacing parts, mostly it's the rebuild kit (banjo bolt, seals, pins, boots, etc) that I worry about mostly. But if you're doing the swap, might as well use all new parts for the extra $15 that you're spending.
When I sourced the NSX setup (never installed it though) I just purchased it from a NSX owner that went to the Brembo setup and rebuilt the calipers myself.

so...assuming I did the install myself w/Legend calipers, what kind of cost are we looking @??
does anyone know where a DIY is for this?? If not someone should write one up.

Yah (i've been doing some more reading), and, you have to swap sides if you're using the Legend GS calipers (right for left, and left for right) to properly orient the bleeder nipple; something that DOES NOT have to be done if you're using the early '91-'93 NSX calipers. Using the legend GS rotors, this should be direct bolt on.
dsludefosho-
per autozone, rebuilt '95 legend GS calipers are: $44.99/each + $62 core charge; '95 legend GS rotors are $70/each. The calipers include a lifetime warranty! And the rotors come with a one year warranty. So, $150 for the calipers (core charge included), and $140 for the rotors (pair), comes to: $290, for a brake setup that I can basically thrash, and get replaced for free.
For reference, the NSX calipers (rebuilt) are $230/each, and only feature a 1 year warranty.
Thank GOD for autozone!
ps- dsludefosho: if you're in so. cal. ill help you do the swap, after i've done mine.

thanks for the help man..
I live in wonderful Utah..
If I need any help I will bug you bout it though..
Last ? what about pads?? when we order pads, we order legend pads right??
Also anyone have any clue how much surface area difference there is between these and our current brakes?? Or at least some idea of braking improvement?

humm is there any walkthrough install? for that price it seems like an awesome deal. They fit right on 5th gens? Is the install really worth it? And can you just go to autozone and buy all the parts?
dsludefosho
nsx/legend/itr/5th gen prelude FRONT pads are the same. so, you just order 5th gen prelude pads.
part of why you do this upgrade is 2 piston v. 1; better modulation, less pad taper, etc. , and i believe they are lighter than stock, 12.5 lbs, i think. also, since we HAVE TO use the legend GS rotors and they are 5 mm thicker, this will aid in heat dissipation, as the thicker rotor has more material, and will run cooler, and heat fatigue later than the thinner rotor would.
it is a bolt on, AFAIK, but you have to switch the calipers (left on right, right on left), and use the legend gs rotors, or your offset will be screwed. and, yes, you can go to autozone and buy all the parts you need, per my post above. i did all the footwork.
ps- ill do a write up, brief mind you, when i do the install; however, i've gotten spoon 4 pots offered to me, so, i might just change my mind, again.
regards.

Hey everyone i didn't want to bring an old thread back to life so this is the only existing one i know of having to do with the legend brake upgrade, my question is are there any rotors out their that match our 4g 4x114.3mm lug pattern and are 28mm thick. Either from an accord or whatever, becasue i want to do the break upgrade and don't want to have to shim and worry about uneven wear. I know stock Vtec are 23mm thick so that would account for the 5mm spacer that Kevie was talking about .... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=134651,, Ive been doing alot of searching around in the accord and lude forum, anyone have a clue?
ya, does neone know if they make rotors in that 28mm size w/ the 114.3x4 lug pattern?? if not does anybody know where i can pick up some custom made rotors in the northeast, or have some made and shipped here? thanks all help is greatly appreciated!
How is the front/ rear brake bias on this setup? Has anyone tried increasing the braking power in the rear to the same degree as the front?
BTW, from what I understand you can just make a 5mm shim to fit under the pads. I think bready from hp.com took some pads and removed all of the material down to the metal for his.

i called around when i was doing my legend brake swap and apparently no one makes a rotor of that thickness with a 4x114.3 pattern. wilwood might be able to do something though...$$$$
Guys, 3mm rotor difference isn't ****, put the damn things on and have fun, they will fit..
http://www.cobaltfriciton.com will set you up w/ a set of awesome pimpy rotors for a great price.. 5th gens, get Legend Rotors, 4th gens, just get 4th gen VTEC rotors..
