He said he was driving and the tach started jumping up and down along with the engine with about a grand of play. I went for a ride with him to check it out and the engine seems fine, but the tach was going nuts at times. Anyway, sounds like a sensor or something going bad, anyone have an idea? Also, would the sensor be in the cluster or on the engine somewhere? I'm guess in the engine bay since the rpms were going nuts. Thanks

 

Same thing happened to my old crx... there was a short in the wire. Did he install an external tach?

 

well it sounds like a ground wire problem have him check all his groundson the motor if not have him add one to the tranny

 

the distributor, or the ignitor. or maybe just a loose wire somewhere

 

Cool, we'll check all that tomorrow. Also should've mentioned, it's a bone stock auto (he's not a car guy, but some how he found a crx with 50k miles on it and chose to do nothing with it ) and he just replaced the distributor.

Nah, that seams fine. I know what you're talking about though, I've experienced that jerking when an alternator is taking a ****. He described a similar feeling when this happened but apparently is wasn't that. I thought at first it was just his cluster that was fucked up.

Still can't figure out the problem, it's bone stock, new distributor, and the grounds all seem fine.

 

doesn't the crx have a cable speedo? if so, the cable might be a little f'ed up internally. might be something to check on. might be even better to ask this in the crx forum, where the gys know all about crappy parts and gremlins like this

 

check ignitor that is almost always the first sign of one going bad

Now that's wierd. He just spent 400 cause he was stuck an hour away to replace the distributor when I told him we could've done it, and then spent another 600 on replacing the radiator. That would really suck if it's the dizzy though.

sounds more like a dizzy cuz mine was going crazy but ran fine my teg would jump crazy but would also spit and sputter and sometimes wouldnt even start also sounds like he made a bad disc..........but u gotta do what u gotta do
