Default Review of ITR tranny with 5.029 Cusco FD plus review of Kakimoto R exhaust

ITR tranny with Cusco FD review
I picked up my car at my mechanic's shop today after installing an ITR tranny with Cusco 5.029 FD. The car was there for a week, since there was no rush as the car is not driven in winter except to the shop. When the tranny swap was completed, my mechanic called me, and the most that he said is that "It rips"

I took it for a test drive, and not wanting to exceed the speed limit by too much, I wound it out to redline in first, second, and third. The car accelerates much more quickly, and the revs climb quicker, but I was shifting at speeds lower than what I was used to, with just the stock ITR tranny. I would lose traction when VTEC engage, but I can attribute that to all the silt on the roads.

At highway speed, I am at approximately 5800 rpm cruising at 120 km/hr, since my VTEC engagement is at 6000, passing is just a stab of the throttle away. Acceleration is noticeably improved! I am not concerned about fuel mileage, since the car is not a daily driver. I can't wait to try out some HPDE this summer, should be able to pull nicely out of the corners

Kakimoto Review
Wow, quiet were my first thoughts, and this is even with a testpipe installed. This exhaust is much quieter than my Greddy Evo, despite me having to use a testpipe, as the shop did not have a cat small enough to fit between my DC JDM header and the Kakimoto. OBD1 rules, no CEL

Cruising at freeway speed, the exhaust cannot be heard above the wind noise. The exhaust is a lot deeper, without the tinny resonance of my Greddy. At WOT, it roars. I have yet to hit the dyno to see if there were any gains, but the Toronto Integra club is orgaizing a dyno day that I will participate in.

For the greenies, I do not plan on using the test pipe on the streets, just until the shop gets its stock of 2 1/2" cats and custom fits one for me.

Sorry, there are no pics, as I forgot the digital camera at home.

Cliff's notes:

Installed ITR tranny with Cusco FD, and Kakimoto R exhaust, loved both, moeny well spent

you are the first review I've read about a 5.029 FD. I'm glad you love it. It sounds like you will have some major fun at the HPDE. Nice review.

What are your rpm's at 100km/h in 5th? My cousin, who already has the 4.7xx JDM FD, is thinking about this upgrade. Nice review

[Edit: I typed this while drinking]

When the tranny swap was completed, my mechanic called me, and the most that he said is that "It rips"
Recently I read the FD install/review on S&M racings' site, and their own explaination was, "it rips".

I think that pretty much sums it up.

I rebuilt my 95 GSR tranny with ITR 1-5th gearing and added a new JDM 4.785 FD
It runs and shifts like new and I am happy with the way it accelerates the car.

My only complaint is that I'd probably get at best 250 miles per tankful if I drive normally....and like 210 on a takkful if I drive aggressively.

I also have the 70mm Kakimoto R ITR exhaust with a carsound cat from David at SMSP products. It sure sounds nice and I believe that its a great exhaust...

enjoy your new tranny and exhaust

opps I was using the 5.029 FD with ATS 1-5

3750 in 5th = 100 kph (60 mph)

Am i the only one who thinks that having a 5.029 FD on a car with 200WHP is a little over kill?

Just my opinion, i would have stuck with the stock 4.4F, or even just a JDM FD if you were planning to convert the teg to an all out lapping car. It just doesn't make sense considering the power your car is putting down

But hey, to each his own

you might not be the only one, but I dont agree with you. Hell I'd go for a even-more-aggressive-than-the-cusco-fd if there was an option (that was affordable).

review of qwazy-cusco final drive =

actually, no. even with 200 whp, a 5.0 FD isnt overkill.

you do realize with more WHP, the higher the FD, the less traction you will have...

But lets keep in mind that your acceleration through the gears would not be TYPE R like acceleration.
