lighter battery?
can anyone recomend a light weight battery for my car... it is a 92 civic HB, B16, Gutted (front seats only) no A/C, still has a radio, and door speakers (for now) but no real electrical accesories other than gauges. not a daily driver, but street driven sometimes. just need enough to start, headlights, and fans. any recomendations??
I just got a lightweight battery from here http://thunderstruck-ev.com/batteries.htm . The SVR-14 model. I haven't installed it yet, but it is very light and can supposedly turn over V-8's.

look into something called a BAT CAP. Il get the information for you later. Its used by competetive sound guys. VERY STONG BATTERY. Kinda expensive but weighs like 4 lbs. and is like 2 1/2 inches by 3 inches. VERY SMALL BUT VERY POWERFUL. I have used it in the past. Think about losing over 40 lbs just from a BATTERY NICE HUH. Il get you the link after i get back from class. LATER
The real "dyna bat" battery for $69.95 instead of $149.95!!!
for the info.

and again thanks to everyone who chimed in with the links... they are great!!
THEY CALL it a bat cap as a brand name dude. So you know its a equivlant of 100 1 farrat caps and Has a reserve cell so IT DOES STORE like a normal battery. It can discharge like 400 AMPS of current at 12.8 volts for like 10 seconds. But in the case of racing it can provide the ampeage for mutliple runs without dropping below 12 volts for the runs. ITS NOT A CAP ITS JUST A NAME. Il get the link in a bit. The brand name is BAT CAP.

The Erinks racing coupe uses a couple of RC bar battery packs put together. KInda off topic...but cool.
found info on the Bat Cap, some dude on E-bay sells them. deffinitely an interesting piece, is it safe to assume that once the motor is started the alternator will sustain the electrical needs?? even with the headlights, heat, and radio on??
Can you use a small battery like like that with a street set-up?
edit: I couldn't find anything else on that Bat Cap thing you were talking about. Do they have a site?

I dont have the link on this computer, thats at work. but I found it by going to google and searching the brand name(scroll up, cant remember at the moment
) and bat cap it brought up an Ebay store, the guy has all the info on them there, I also E mailed him and ask if it was enough to start the car, he said it should be, he hasnt done it himself, (on the 400/small one)
but that the larger one (thats about the same specs as the dynabat) he uses personaly to start his V8 with... for me... I am going to buy the dynabat fo $69 and be done, its under 15 lbs. the 800 model bat cap is like $170. and the 400 (wich may be questionable for street use) is like $149. so for the money, and streetability I am putting my $ on the dynabat!!
PS: if you have any questions about the bat cap just E mail the dude! he got right back to me and was very profesional
EDIT: here... forgot the search is actually a little tricky, I found the name in a vehicle description on an enthusiast page, and searched using the name wich is Xstatic and batcap together...
http://www.stores.ebay.com/xstaticbatcapcentral there even easier!!

There were quite a few discussions about this topic in the Type-r forum, if I remeber correctly. It seemed as if there is a problem with having these batteries for a daily driver and on top of that staring a car and driving it with a bunch of power robbing accesories. Is there anyone that can vouch for that with first hand experince? As far as these style of batteries not lasting for an extended period let alone holding the charge to keep your street car going?
I can vouch for the battery. The reason why is I HAVE USED ALLOT OF THEM IN MY PAST. Lets put it this way. When our car was outside in front of the shop we had the stereo playing and the lights on came back 5 minutes later and the car started. IT HAS A HUGEEEEEEEEEEEE DISCHARGE. THE ONLY THING IS IT HAS A SMALLER RESERVE. VERY SMALL. So what does that mean for you guys? YOU CANT SIT THERE WITH MY GF AS YOUR HITTING THAT **** WITH MY MUSIC ON FOR A HOUR AND EXPECT THERE TO BE A RESERVE OF POWER.
With your lights on and a ussualy music playing with the car off you have maybe 20 minutes before the battery dies. SO DONT SCREW AROUND.
Once your car is on theres enough reserve and enough discharge to run your car properly. AND GUESS WHAT ?? YOU WANT MORE POWER. ADD TWO. LOL im not joking either. Theres a guy we know that runs 4 and they fit in a standard honda tray. HE RUNS 6 thousand RMS watts to his car and its fine
. But for your drag racers just lets say its A VERY EASY WAY TO REMOVE WEIGHT FROM YOUR CAR ! AND ITS A GOOD BATTERY. This is comming from someone in the industry.
Want some info. Okkie dookie. Its called BATCAP its made by a company called X-STATIC. the website http://www.batcap.net/Model400.html
heres some specs.
THE 400 IS THE ONE YOU WANT
3 inches X
3 inches X
5 inches X
5 LBS! 400 COLD CRANKING AMPS (SEE WHAT I MEAN) SO PUT 2 TOGETHER AND GET 800 COLD CRANKING AMPS IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. AND YOUR STILL AT 10 LBS!
I have a picture of me spinning one like a basketball hehehe im looking for it.
IF you have any more questions get back to me . Thanks guys.

hmm i have some in my store i think....... gonna charge one up and see if i can start my teg with it i personally dont like them for audio a second battery works much better but alot heavier but the car i used them in had 4 mmats d100hc's and 4 typer 15's and i used 1 bat cap 4 each amp and i didnt seem to help that much if any put 1 extra battery and took out the bat caps and he was golden
mmats makes a modified amp that comes with a batcap right on the side of it so they must work in that type of application i guess
but i just dont see it starting a car i will trie it tho and let u guys know

So have u tried the Dynabatt? Thats what I wanted to get but then I heard that it wont hold the charge and have enuf power to start the car..I dont have a big stereo system or anything no a/c or any other power robbing acces. What ya think is it doable?
