*WARNING*
What i did was take a dremel to the threads of the shifter to make it shorter, probably by about 1/2" or so. I put newspaper/plastic bags all over my interior to protect from the metal shreds. For some odd reason the **** was able to go on now. But later on when i bought a real ITR **** it wouldn't fit, so i just ended up buying another stock shifter.
FYI, if you don't want to dremel your shifter, i still have my old cut shifter if you want it. I'm thinking it should fit your ****. I'll let it go for free+s/h if you want it. It's just been sitting here for the past couple odd years. just let me know

out of curiousity... what kinda of shifter are you using?? and what **** were you using with it previously??
Because, if you are using the stock **** which has a plastic center, then regardless of the shifter threading, it will pretty much thread onto any shifter(even if the shifter is threaded improperly). And so if you try and put a metal **** on there, then it might not work.
This actually happen with skunk2 short shifters for one batch, they went out with the wrong threading.

I put a typr r shift boot and shifter and it doesnt look good. The bag hangs too low, so I just used my original shifter and it looks better. You dont actually see the shifter.

i have two, 1 in mine and 1 in my gf's, they both threaded on fine but you have to align it right with the nut
and i was using the stock gsr **** before with some cheap after market ss
1-screw the bolt, washer side up,all the way down. not tight-more like jsut sitting there.
2- screw on you shiftknob until it contacts the bolt. don't tighten it down yet.
3-grab 14mm or 9/16" or whatever size you need and align the shiftknob the way you want it.
4-then hold the **** inyour hand-aligned-and use the 14mm wrench to tighten up on the ****.

couldn't get the other had in the picture becasue i had to take the picture, but imagine it holding the shiftknob in place as i turn the bolt with the wrench to the right
FINISHED PRODUCT a lil blurry though

<rice advice>
I prefer it w/o the nut. Using the nut takes up thread space, so if u want your **** to sit the lowest possible leave it out.
If your having problems with it aligning to the point where it tightens up, try stuffing some bits of cardboard paper or something in the ****.

I bought a 1996 JDM ITR center console from a friend complete with ashtray/drinks holder and the shift boot is just plain black, no red stitching, not that it makes much of a difference to me!

what size is the bolt? i have a type r **** i bought off some guy but he didn't have the locking bolt for me. need to go to lowe's or something to find the right size... just didn't know what size fits around the stock shifter
the bolt that came with it screwed right on
but for some reason the **** wouldnt
since it was only like 15 bucks i decided to force the bitch on. i remembered seeing a craftman tool that was like a rubber strap and you pulled it and it grabed whatever you wanted. after seeing this commercial i thought "now who and the hell needs one of those" well i guess i needed one.
it was like 10 bucks and worked like a charm, i used it right in the sears parkin lot, it took about 5min. good thing i stayed in the parkin lot tho cuz i broke one but since it had a lifetime warrenty i took it back within 10 min of buying it
oh well just thought i would share, thanks for all the suggestions

are these shift ***** good? just curious. Aren't they freezing cold when u get into your car and the weather is cold? And isn't it too hot to handle when the temps are high?
