S2000 Antenna*PICS*
I like it! Where did you get it? I want one for my car!
#1-the conversion kit(PM user "RStoR" for it)
#2-the actual s2000 antenna element( #4 @ http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...NTENNA-SPEAKER )
I shoulda taken a look at this earlier... ( was trying to figure out how to open up the side panels today )

i did the s2000 antenna "conversion" on my car and it looks and works great. the reception is practically as good as the stock antenna, perhaps a little worse, but most of the time i dont even notice.
I have the s2k antenna installed on my car, did not order the conversion kit, and used the bseries.net page as a very slight reference.
BTW, reception is great. The s2k antenna is an amplified antenna, so make sure to put an amplifier inline. I have mine mounted in the trunk behind the drivers side plastic. I was able to grab 12v ign and ground back there so it all worked out well.

I read on other posts that the reception on the S2K antennas weren't that great.

thats right.... Mine sits straight up, its not slanted like yours. Are you sure its an OEM S2K ?
Mine is the Silver Integra below, sits straight up. Now look at the integra on the right side of me, I'm so glad I did the conversion. The stock antenna is way toooo tall. Reception is not bad, I'm not complaining. I dont even have an amplifier in mine.

hey goto ebay.com , search for s2000 antenna
paid 65.00 for my kit, including an amp andtenna mounting etc.
locustom@earthlink.net he has a web site, worked for me.
I mounted mine at an angle, straight up slows u down!

I don't see how a locknut/washer could be used to accomplish anything.
If you rotate the antenna and base a bit, it will slant backwards.
I know of people that have installed amplifiers on the antenna and they say it only serves to amplify what static is already there.
And also, I don't see how antenna height could make a difference with volume, at least if you're getting a strong signal anyway.

i was just thinking that a lock washer/nut, on the internal side obviously, would make it a lot harder for someone to unscrew the mast and take it. but that's assuming the theif doesn't just take a hacksaw to the plastic mounting base.
about the in-line amps: i've heard about them just amplifying the static that's already there too....but i've never found a place that actually sells them. does anyone know anything or have any opinions on where to buy the amps and how well they work?

radio shack sells the antenna amplifiers.
the antenna screws into a rod coupler nut, which has to be tapped differently on either end (unless you can find a rod coupler nut with a 5mm thread). So I don't really see how a locknut would be implemented.
In case anyone is interested, I improved upon the design/kit shown on the bseries.net site. Instead of a piece of PVC glued to a washer, I used a PVC end cap with a hole drilled in the middle. This will have no chance of coming apart, unlike the PVC glued to the washer (which came apart on mine a couple of times).

you know what, you're right. i didn't even remember the coupler that i had to tap out. i just squirted a whole lot of loctite into it before i screwed in the mast. sorry about that.
for installation i didn't use the PVC thing either. i used the top 1/3 of the original motorized antenna and cut it off so i used the original mounting piece on the under side and the tube like thing that has the plug on it where you plug up the antenna cable. kinda works as an amp...kinda. mine works great!

got my kit installed on my 2nd gen this morning (and man was i hungover....but dammit i wanted it done.
). From what I can tell, the reception is just as good as it was with my chitty stock antenna. Maybe a tidge worse, but with as infrequently as I listen to the radio (mp3 players own even more
), it serves its purpose of not being obtrusive. My old antenna would go down halfway then sit there like a thin silver **** on my car......fugly. As for the theft issue, a little bit of loctite goes a long way.
