Default B series differential and transmission question

Im doing the conversion from tapered bearings on the differential (97 r lsd diff btw) to the regular ball bearing style and I've got a a question. I already have hte bearing pressed onto the diff but when I try to put the diff into the case/housing, it seems like the bearing is slightly to big. The whole diff has to be pressed in really hard, like as if I needed a press to get it in. Do I have the wrong bearing? Or is there some special magical way of doing it?

Shouldn't the diff slide in easily?

That doesn't sound right. I put a Quaife in my 95 gsr and it went in smooth. I did not do a ball bearing switch though.

bearings shouldn't affect that. I blew out my old LSD (stock R, 01) with the ball bearings and replaced it with a used one with tapered bearings. Swapped the bearing and didn't have a problem. Take some fine grit sandpaper to the inside of the bellhousing and make sure its smooth. the littlest thing will cause problems.

other then that, should slide right in.

I swapped some too. It worked out fine..

Tighten down the case without the gear clusters in.. that should tell you how well it seats.

Hopefully you aren't putting it in while the tapered bearing casing is still down there stuck..

sometimes its a little tight, but shouldnt be press-in tight.
check the clearances

I removed all the shims and the tapered bearing outter cover so I dont think thats the issue. Im gonna try that fine sandpaper and clean up the area a bit and hopefully thatll work. I guess slightly tight is ok

I coated my finger with oil and smeared it on the bearing and the case before snugging it down. It pulled down very nicely.. try that too..

I'm reassembling a tranny right now, and when the new OEM LSD diff is in place and spun as fast as I can spin it by hand, the bearings make a noise as if they are not lubricated well enough. The bearing itself feels tight.

I tried putting in my original open diff and spinning it to compare, and its roughly the same, a little quieter. Is this normal or should there be nearly NO sound when you spin a diff in the casing?
