What electronics are you using in combination with the EMS?

Brands and models would be great.

 

not sure if you know but the EMS eliminates most of the other electronics.

You won't need a boost controller, a knock sensor, an ignition retard device, etc.

Only electronic I'm using is 2 electric gauges and a Techedge wide band.

 

GM 3 bar map and stock Honda O2. I tried the GM boost control solenoid but couldn't fine tune it well enough on the street so I didn't end up using it last year.

 

Im just wondering for what i should look into getting beside the EMS. I know that it replaces most electronics, but its always good to know what other have.

I already have the 3 bar map sensor and wiring

 

-GM 3bar right now, think of changing to AEM 3.5 bar Map since it's more accurate.
-FJO wideband with monitor, I still don't trust AEM a/f reading although it "Seems" to match the FJO monitor.
-Greddy Profec B, Had to use it since GM boost solenoid failed on me when I first attemped to make it work when EMS first released.
-Greddy turbo timer.
-Greddy boost, oil pressure, EGT gauge. Had them before I had EMS.
-AC/DC converter. Labtop kept on running out of battary.

That's about it with all the electronics working in conjunction to the EMS. I can take off numerous units but it's already in and working well so it's staying in the car.

I had the DIY wideband and the AVC-R.

 

Blitz SBC-iD2 Boost Controller (Figured I'd keep it for easy boost reading/logging)
TechEdge Wideband + Display (Easy a/f readings)
DC-AC converter for laptop (with a bad battery as well)

 

There is no need to spend $200+ on a seperate electronic boost controller when the GM solenoid ($15) controls boost more accurately and VSS dependant boost is programmable!

I have it tuned within (+/-) a tenth of a psi from the boost target.

thats how they pay their employees and other overhead. I guess they could just figure that into their prices and charge less for S&H but it'd be the same either way.

can you still use a regular boost controller (the evc 4 in my case) to control the boost or will u have to regulate boost through the ems?..

 

You don't have to regulate it with the EMS.

I think I am getting the EMS...if I have the EMS control boost, all I need is a boost selonoid? Can I control boost based on the gear the car is in?

Also FYI/FYAI the AEM EMS can act as a turbo timer if you wire it up correctly.

I just got my EMS from Viren a few days ago.and I've been hanging out on the EMS forum quite a bit now. I dunno if it's me but this thing is starting to scare me, I'm trying to figure out how to get the firmware and software current and up to date but I'm afraid I'm gonna screw something up.

Trying to get an understanding of all the features is somewhat difficult too cause some of the terminology being thrown around is foreign to me. I was able to get a fairly good understanding of how the Apexi PFC works on the RX7 and how you adjust it's features, but that's because there were complete intruction PDFs available and the terms used in the instructions were kept simple. There are instructions available for the EMS online and in the CD but the learning curve is a little steeper than the Apexi PFC...at least for me it is anyways.

 

You can still use a seperate EBC to control the boost.

 

so ill still be able to control boost via my boost controller? cuz i dont want that mess to go to waste hehe...

 

You'll also need to get a harness...people keep referring to it as a 'pigtail'. You can get it from your local Pepboys.

Sooner or later I will change back to boost solenoid as I still have the part in my junkie box with pigtail. I had to focus on fueling and timing alot more before than messing around with boost control functions.

 

I could have sworn I saw a newer, more recent post saying that they had all the issues worked out with the EMS' turbo timer function. I guess maybe they still have to work out a few bugs with it.

i came from no tuning experience what so ever and well basically my **** still ain't tuned

I was thinking about selling my ems but i figured I'd tough it out.. I finally got a decent understanding on how certain things work and through reading old posts and even talking to some people that have it through im...i think i may just be able to do it. We should get an aim list of people who have it and won't mind sharing a few tips here and there so us newbs can get it running.

Oh yeah..its very easy to upload maps and upgrading versions. I was also about to tune my **** when the EPROM went bad on it..sent it to AEM and they basically got me a new board and overnighted to me. Now THAT is service!

I'm down for the aim list, i'm always trying to understand the ems a little better. Reading the .pdf's that come with the software is also very helpful as well as the message board. The tech support line is also a great service.
