primer paint job.
i really like primer paint jobs. and wanna give my accord some black primer finish.
a few questions tho...how long will it take to sand off the old paint....is that even necessary? how much paint should i buy? if i buy some bondo, can i shave the emblems and door handles, how hard is that? can i shave handles w/o keyless entry? what paint should i buy? i got a lot of pictures with search, but no real information, hopefull someoen whos done it can shead some light on the situation...pics of primer jobs are welcome as well.
thanks in advance.

juust scuff the car dont sand it, scuff it with a brillo pad , just enough to make it rough so the paint will stick better, paint doesnt stick well to a smooth surface
just use krylon flat black, ultra flat black, or semi flat black, they all dull out over a weeks time or so...

intead of using Krylon, I would use a primer that would be easier to sand later down the road. Just sand the clear coat- as stated above, unless body work is needed. Then mask and spray. Use a fan style nozzle can for a more even coat.
For shaving your emblems, just buy some fiberglass bondo to fill the holes, and then regular bondo filler to finish off on top of that. You'll need to sand to the metal before doing bondo work. Make sure you follow directions or talk to a body guy. Bonda is one of those things which can be great or horrible.

man i don't see why you guys like that, I think it looks horrid
I also heard that bare primer is not suitable for weather exposure, something about it absorbing moisture or something. It has to have a color or at least a clear coat over it.

any kind of krylon paint is durable towards cold weather, moisture, water etc.
as long as there isnt any bare metal exposed,
its not suppose to "look good" its a cheap easy way to deflect attention.

affording an ITR or not has nothing to do with it. Thanks though

he's saying since his car isn;t DOPE or in pristine condition, he has more options on his plate as far as being experimental. I wouldn't touch an R. But if I had an 88 Civic, I would experiment like crazy, same way I did/do on my 70 Chevy truck I'm restoring
