Lowering Woes
I recently had my 94 EX lowered 2in with Tokico full coilovers and ingalls cambers installed as well. It was making a "click" noise every time I hit any kind of bump, even moderate ones. This happened all the time. It also squeaked horribly constantly. I was told that my sway bar links and bushings were the cause of the click and that a little lube would cure the squeak. (I was told this by the shop that installed everything.) I brought it back with the parts to be installed. I just got it back yesterday and now it clicks worse than it ever did before. I think I ran over an ant in the road and it clicked, it is redicuous. What is causing this? The coilovers have been on for 1000 miles already and should be broken in. They doused the cambers in lube and it stopped squeaking but now the front right, creaks like an old wooden staircase any time I accelerate or brake. I know that lowering your car has it's consequences but this seems a bit much.
Just wondering if anyone knows what may be causing this. I have 2 suspicions. (1)They put the wrong size sway bar bushings in?? Does anyone know the right size. I had 25mm in the front and 15mm inthe rear installed (I know there is also a smaller size but they reccomened the larger) (2)Or another possibility is the strut adjustment. The Tokico's are 5 way adjustable. I believe they were on 2 and they adjusted them to 3. I am not sure which is tighter or looser.
Sorry for the book but this is bugging me. I just want it done right. (on top of it all, they had to take my rear seat out to do the rear bushings and they did not put it back in right and there are now beautiful greasy fingerprints all over my seats....) Any info on this would be great. Thanks.

I called the guy right after I noticed the seat and the grease. He said he will pay to have it cleaned. But I am not sure about clicking in reverse. I will have to roll over a few bumps later backwards and see if I get the click.
Do you think setting the struts too tight would cause creaking? Or too loose would cause he click? I am just wondering where it is coming from. Something has to be hitting. It almost sounds like the puff of air you get when you unnattach an accessory from a compressor air line... ?? I don't feel that the car is receiving a jolt, just a tap of some sorts. These are gas struts.....any difference from other struts??

well the car doesn't pull to one side or another does it?
have you looked up under the car to make sure that everything is OK? did they replace your sway-bar bushings or just lube them?
when yoou goit the car back the second time and the problem was worse I can only believe that it would be related to something they messed with. Now if I knew what they touched to redo the sway bar bushings that would give us a btter idea of what the problem might be.

well first off if something was not installed right or they got grease on the interior of you car take it back to them and have them fix it
does it click while moving in reverse?

check your strut mount bushings. They may need replaceing.
You can check them by opening the hood and pushing down an the fender and see if it moves up and down. It should not.
You could have a bad strut. But most likely not.
Check to see if your upper control arm is hitting the fender. Mine did and I have to shave it.

Now that you mention it, they did have to shave my upper control arm. Do you think that they did not shave it enough?? Would that cause the click I am hearing?? I just think they forgot to install something or mis-installed something with the coilover, or possibly reccomended the wrong size bushings.... ??
I'm still wondering if anyone has had the same experience as this with their lo-ridr.
After the grease on my seats...and I never mentioned that I originaly brought the car in to have the left axle replaced...(the sole reason I brought in the 1st place after they told me it was severely worn and needed to be replaced..... Then after I called him that morning to check on it and asked him about the axle...He gives it back to me with the bushings replaced and no axel!!! I felt like denting his head right there... I don't know how this guy stays in business. Hass Garage in Boca Raton FL... Don't waste your time... They had great feedback from everyone I talked to but personal experience proves otherwise..... He did not replace the part I originally brought it in for... but he sure as hell charged me like he did the work thought....bastard robber......
I am just gun-shy now... I love the way my car looks...and it handles well...but I never expected the creaks and "clicks" that I inherited from this process... Still looking for an explanation... ?? Thanks for the replys!! I appreciate anything I can throw back in this mutt's face when I bring the car back to clean my seats he greased up....

And in response to Urbanlegend, the car does not pull at all to either side...it tracks straight, the only thing they touched was the sway bar links and bushings...and they said they cranked my struts from the 2 setting to the 3 setting. They said this was tighter then the 2 setting. ?? Any ideeas? I may grab a jack tomorrow and start messing with the strut settings 1-5 and see what happens. Any ideas??
