Clutch Opinions
Alright its time for a clutch, my throwout bearing is about to give and as long as i'm takin the entire tranny apart i'm gonna throw in a new clutch at the same time. I have a 95 ex and right now its stock (intake is all) Future plans are nothing extreme but a small junkyard turbo setup runnin like 7 or 8 psi could happen. Ive been lookin around online and so far it looks like the exedy organic race clutch is my best bet so far. What are some of your opinions on act, clutchmasters, or any of the others for my setup, thanks.
yea...my throwout bearing is at the end of its life too. personally, if i was puttin a new clutch in, i'd might as well put in a racing one. i think the ACT stage 2 clutch would be my preference.
So you want to upgrade your clutch. First thing's first : ACT has no stage 2 clutch. They have a Heavy Duty Pressure Plate and an Extreme Pressure Plate. They have street disc that is only a little stonger than stock if at all. There is a six puck street/strip disc that is good for your daily driven car than you just so happen to take to the track from time to time or if you are natural born street racer. And finally there is the four puck disc that is recommended four track use only but I've seen it used on the street and it's pretty good if you can handle it. That explains ACT's clutchline. If you need more info go to the website.
Clutchmaster's are pretty good as well. I wouldn't rate them higher than ACT but they really can build a good clutch. I've had friends that have had all of there stages of clutch. I have a friend who has a Stage 1 on a 92 Teg LS and he is giving a lot of people a hard time with an LS having only intake and exhaust. He is giving other LS's and B16's problems and they all think he has a built motor for some reason.
I have a friend who had a Stage 2 on his Accord and he could spin tires 1st thru 3rd gear no problem. His heavy *** Accord was no joke on that stock SOHC engine(92 non-vtec f23). He got a lot of respect because that car was pretty damn quick for what it was and for what it went up against.
I knew a guy with a Stage 3 on a SOHC Vtec Civic EX. His car was pretty bad *** but he wasn't that good of a driver. He had no complaints about his clutch and he was pretty damn proud of it.
I have a close friend with a 95 GSR and he has Stage 4 up against a GSR motor with ITR pistons and he is spinning tires up to 4th gear and he still has alot of driving skills to learn. He loves that clutch and he shows it everytime he goes to race.
I don't know anyone with the Stage 5 but I've heard if you are using that you better be prepared to stall out alot because it doesn't take much to engage it. That clutch should be used at the track only or on a street driven S2000 or NSX.
There are many more clutches out there you just have to keep searching. Hit the search button and begin there.
Always remember one thing, The Clutch Doesn't Make The Driver, The Driver Makes The Clutch. You use the clutch don't let it use you because you'll have a handful of broken axles.
