So I've had spoon springs on stock shocks for 25000 miles now and here is my review. I've seen so many friggin' posts, "Can stock shocks handle sp00m springs okay?" blah, blah, blah, so hopefully this will answer most of the questions asked by those who would like this fairly inexpensive combination.
Looks - The car looks extremely nice on spoon springs. It's lowered just enough, but not too much.
Handling - 0 miles - 5,000 miles - car is fast in the corners. It dives in nice and comes out even nicer. If you are coming into a turn too fast, most of the time (depending on driver skill) you can come out of it okay without spinning the car around.
The car is a little bouncy, but still, that's what you get with stiff springs.
Mileage 5,000 - 12,000. Car continues to handle even nicer. Tires begin to wear extremely fast, especially if you are an auto crosser. I can quote the Jiffy Lube guy when he told me, "You have very unusual tire wear." I kind of just said, "okay, whatever." and kept driving anyway. The springs continue to sort of eat of away at the shocks and the car becomes a little more bouncy.
Mileage 12,000 - 19,000 - shocks are not dead, but you can definately feel the weakening of them. Car handles worse than at 5,000 miles. Absorption of speed bumps or slight cracks in the street when driving over them is pretty bad and I've had passengers in the back seat hit their heads on the back windshield. Dave-ROR can be quoted stating, "Ouch, spoon springs own you."
Mileage 19,000 - 23,000. I knew the shocks were going out. I can sit in the car with the parking brake on bounce up and down in my seat and hear the springs hammering down on the shocks like my girlfriend in bed.
It's like a bed in motion back and forth, back and forth.
I know you all get the point.
Mileage 24,000+ - It's been difficult to take turns at any medium rate of speed. I feel like a tire is going to go down or the car will spin around. The shocks are completely gone. The ride to work is rough and when you hit any sort of bump in the road or crack between to layers of street, there's a big kaboom and the steering wheel shakes all over and the car gets loose. Absorption of bumps is non-existent. My Kumho 712s lasted not even 15,000 miles.
Bilstein shocks are now sitting on my living room couch waiting for January 11th when FL/NC burns my house down.
So, for anyone that says sure, spoon springs will go nicely with stock shocks, I say, sure they will, for about 16,000 miles.

My buddy works in the pit at Jiffy Lube and hooks it up with free oil changes
Other than that, I take my car to the mechanic O' D

Now, that's a real daily driver/beater.

Car had 29000 miles when spoon springs were installed.
Car now has 53000 on the chasis and it's an '01.
Marc ----> who will put another 2500 to and from expo
Edit: Sean ----> it's been like 9 months since Jason's.

Marc: just installed some bilsteins with H&R race springs this past weekend. The H&R's were on the stock shocks for about 40k, owner quote: "It feels like a caddy now, rides much smoother".

I dont see why everyone wants Spoon springs when they give such an ugly drop, the front is clearly not level with the back, I dont see why more people are not trying the H&R springs. Having an equal drop is ideal, having the front front noticealy lower than the back is less ideal, and having the back lower than the front is just gross. Perhaps their performance is so great as to justify the unequal drop?

I've not a huge fan of the spoon springs, but they aren't that bad. Marc's car is "dropped" fine, a bit too much imo, but oh well. Or are you thinking of the Spoons with the CRX rear Konis? That's a different story that certainly isn't spoon's fault.

Rates = measure, not price
You can keep the cans to yourself, thanks
Do say hi for me, though

I remember seeing 3 different cars with spoon springs, and with each , the rear was lower, meaning less wheel well gap in the back, I guess they could equal if measured, but I guess I would personally prefer the wheel well gap to be equal. i think George Knighton also had the same issue? And he got spacers to raise the rear. It almost seems like the only way to go if you want to lower your car for looks or performance is a nice set of coil overs....

George only cares about looks for car shows, so this is quite possible.
BTW, if someone spends the dough on a true coilover setup for looks, they need their head checked.

George had a problem with the Spoon Springs/Koni Shocks combo I believe.
