Similar to stiffer engine mounts it's there to reduce the amount of engine movement that you have, allowing you to have better transitions from off throttle to on throttle, also allowing you to put more power(albeit it slightly) to the ground, it also helps with wheel hop.

if only on one side, won't it cause the engine to twist at an angle since the other side is not 'dampered' ?

yshi - who has no thoughts of getting one, but just thought it was odd that it's only on one side *shrug*

i think it prevents front to back movement of the motor, but you do raise a good point yoshi.

.....i'd hit it.

:fire:

:metal:

On a serious note, it'd be a neato jdm thingie to have under my hood. Provided it fits on an uncut valve cover'd b18c5 in a dc2r.....

Anyone?

Wil not fit the DC2-R because the Master cylinder/booster is right in the way.

JDM cars only.

EK is fine because it mounts on the driver side shock tower. It was developed primarily to address the weak driver side mount of the EK.

The DC mount goes at the back of the cyl head, and then to firewall. This damper should be used in conjunction with motor mount inserts/stiffer engine bushings....

I was there when they put it in and testdrove the car right after...the one in the pics....

Wouldn't mount inserts make the damper unnessessary? My engine doesn't move at all with the inserts in.

HAhaha....Dylan..your ROCKS for engine mount inserts don't count!

Call it JDM bling ....but some people *wussies* (I fit into this category) who don't want their car to vibrate like a 200hp ***** will opt for the softer inserts and add this torque dampener to further reduce movement.....

This would definately be a good thing in the EK chassis. If anyone has had one, they know that the driver side mount sucks ***. I went through 3 of them before I bought inserts. That brace is something to look into, too bad its so pricey.

Hmm, on the mounting location of the EK it looks like after some time of engine tilting it would weaken the side of the shock tower? I can see the DC2 firewall mouting location being stronger than the side of the shock tower.

i recently ordered and received one from leo. it does fit the dc2-r. but it is produced by j's racing. it mounts to the back of the head and to the shock tower. i will keep you guys informed of how it works. if it is worth it or not.

You can? thats funny because the shock tower is a lot stronger than the firewall.
Why do you think MC braces exist?
And why do you think those are mounted to the shock tower as well??

seriously.

looks like it might be a valved dampener? if so, what's the point? and if not, it could be made much cheaper and stronger with chromoly tubing... but wouldn't be green y0.

I wouldn't worry about that. There is a lot of sheet metal there to take all the stresses of the suspension. Also. its a damper so the forces it transmits won't be so extreme. I would be far more worried if it was a solid bar.

P.S. So how much $$$ is it? the AJ-Racing site doesn't quote prices. Its probably one of those JDM "if you have to ask you can't afford it" kind of things"

Well, I don't think you get that much stress with a MC cyl. brace. It moves, but not that much.

think about how much you can leg press.
then factor in a lever to give you even more torque.
firewall is weak, thin sheet of metal.
shock tower holds the car off the ground.

his point was that the FW is weak enough to allow the MC/booster to move it and therefore need a brace bolted to a strong piece (in this case, the shock tower) if you don't want it to move/flex the FW.
