Default to gude or not to gude???

i've heard both good and bad about gude heads. so i need some final opinions before i lay money down on a used gude head.

another question...anybody know how much they mill the bottom end? i don't want to run 11:1 compression, id feel safer with mid to low 10s for a street/strip single slammer. mr. gasket sells those stackable head gaskets, i just have to figure out how much i can lower the cr with them. (dont want to do pistons!!) thanks

Bill Gude and his products can suck a dick, Sorry for the outburst but i send him "Gude" 1800~ dollars for one of his H22 vtec heads with cams... In return he sends me a cracked cyl head that has a crack from one combustion chamber to the next aside it.. I call him "Bill Gude" up and tell him the situation and he tells me " well we send you a perfectly good head, i am sorry there is nothing we can do" ..... What kinda customer service is that after giving him ~1800 dollars..
Damn ****** i wish i ran into him some day..

A friend of mine had a D16Z6 Gude package with no problems. It ran great. He was spanking GSR swaps all day. I hear good and bad also but personally I haven't seen bad results.

That sucks about the head ....is there anything else you can do...I mean that's $1800 which is by no means a small amount of money.

im thinking your right. from reading peoples comments thats what i get from the majority. few say that the product sucks too. i can only afford the used head. if i was going for brand new i dont think that i would go with gude. i would actually try the exospeed head package.
from exospeed.com
What the package will include:

Stage 1
Port/Polish head
Valve Job
New valve guides
Custom Exospeed Cam(of your choice)
Cam seal
Resurface/Mill head
Cam gear
Match port intake manifold
Starting at $925.00

* Core charge $250.00

doesn't sound bad

I ordered a Gude head, and what he sent me was some piece of junk that looked a cam had been broken in that head before (the part where the cam sits as all tarnished and carved up). The didn't even clean up the head before I got it, it was all dirty and there was carbon on the valves.

you are talking about the ZC motors right. at this time. we are holding off on doing those heads. and cams. I personally dont feel comfortable releasing any of the ZC cams we have since i havent had any proven times/dyno numbers on them. Right now we are focusing on SOHC and DOHC B setups.

I've heard of many people complaining about the horrible service of Gude on this site and here's a couple more. Personally i was really interested in them a while back but the more i read about them, the more horror stories i read and also, you never hear about them in any magazines which tells me they are not moving ahead in research.

Go with Erik's racing. They are well known and their sole job is to make the best flowing heads possible. Or try DPR racing. They are also well known and respected and you these guys do the heads for some of the best Honda's out their. And the price is actually cheaper than Gude if you can believe that.

I've heard a few people saying that Gude simply mills the **** out of the head and that's how they make HP. I don't think that is too good.

No, seriously, how can you tell. I picked up a "gude" head with JG cam from someone for pretty cheap. Just wondering how I can tell if it is a true gude or not. The cam itself was worth the price I paid. But just curious.

Theirs no way to tell if a head is a Gude head or not. It's just no way of telling. Anyone who tells you it's a Gude head or a JG head is probably lying cause those are the popular ones and they sell for the most. Buying a used head is something i wouldn't even think of doing. I bought a supposed Gude head and i found out it wasn't. Porting/polishing the head is something only skilled people can do and i would do it right. Just pay the top dollar and get the best head you can get.

Well, for the price I picked it up, and the cam it came with, it will be fine. Besides. I would rather go cheap, and learn first, then drop a few G's on something I am not familiar with.

But this head has been p&p has a valve job, and has been milled. There are also some engravings showing something. Just not sure what they mean.

Most tuners I've dealt with will engrave their name and date of work done . It not only helps verify that they did the work , but it also is a cheap form of advertizing and can give reference to what has been done later if it switches hands .
