Default B18B LS vs. B16A2???

aight i just wanted to do a poll on what you thinkg...whether it be stock LS vs. stock B16 or the regular bolt ons i/h/e on both motors??? i know most of you will say "it all depends on what your setup is"...but im just testin out the waters to see which one people would choose stock or with just the regular bolt ons.

B18 will most likely lose top end... but will be the better choice due to the torque and you can VTEC it later.

There is no comparison.

If you are broke get the LS, but if you are broke I say you wait and save up for the b16a2. The b16a2 is pretty cheap no adays

The b16a2 is a better motor on every single performance level, YES even for turbo. If you are going to leave it stock get the b16a2 if you are going to mod it with turbo, nos or SC then get the b16a2. All motor?? yep you guessed it the b16a2.

Dont get me wrong the b18b/a is a good motor, but why start with less efficient motor?

Save up and get the better motor.

There are better honda motors (b18cx) But I stayed with the motor choices you gave in your post.

i was jsut puttin this post of because i was testing the waters...when i was all motor in my LS i would take out b16s easily (and that car wasnt even tuned)...now it is turboed...i think it is great...i do agree that is is a cheaper swap but that is what i was testing for. its all about who can get the faster car without spending as much...of course if you had the funds you can make any car fast...to me its all about making it work with what you got. my whole project including car, motor and turbo setup is still under $2500 and that is less or about equal to a b16a2 swap alone. i believe that an LS has better basis on which to work a project on. like in the previous post "you can always get vtec later."

honestly i would rather prefer a b18c over anything but its all about what you can do with what you have...

b18b sucks? You suck because you either don't know what to do with it or you just can't drive for ****.

My old DX hatch had a b18b w/gsr tranny and 2.25 ITR mid pipe. It ran officially 14.72 but it could do better, how i know. Because it did better than 14.72, i just can't prove it. The b18b has potential. Both are great motors, but i would personally never step down to a b16, the lack of torque really turns me away from it and i have little respect for the motor even though it's great for N/A or boost and it arguably has more potential, but that's not really true, depending on who you talk to.

i say b18b...or better yet b18c1.

I tottaly agree with his statement. A little OT , what kind of turbo setup are you running that is so cheap?

b16

I went from a built LSVTEC to the b16. Sure there was more torque, but the b16 is much more fun. It revs so much easier then the LS, both with a gsr tranny.

A b16 with b16 tranny i/h/e will run the same as a LS with GSR tranny and I/H/E with equal driver.

LSs are overrated.

IMO I just think the b16 and at that the Vtec honda motors are just better built for performance aspects. The Ls is nice if you want your car to zip around get pretty decent MPG and of course it can make 500 WHP with the best of them (boost of course)

The better the motor, the more efficent the motor the less it has to work to make the same amount of HP. So thats why I never even bothered with an 18b or a 23a Of course there are nice hybrid motors out these days and such; so more options mean more pleasure.

B16a is a great little motor for ripping around turns just keeping those revs up high and shooting out of the turns is great, the motor almost sounds like it enjoys being at 7K

If I was broke I would save and get the engine I want in the first place

Just my thoughts, dont want to down anyones decisions or paths about what motor they have chosen. I am far from rich but I know how to save and do things right the first time. I guess you learn that after like your 5th hybrid hah.

go 2.0 sleeved ls turbo in the EG as i have. You wont regret it. Except for the tire spinning and dash that sounds like its gonna fall off.

racing is racing...it's to see who beats who, not who spends less.

Don't get me wrong, i would want a cheap fast car too.

I don't know about that. My b16 powered hatch runs 14.2's on street tires I/H/E. I have yet to see a b18b with the same setup run that. The LS is a great motor though. Swaps can be found under $1000 in some places. $2300 for the greddy turbo kit and you've got a very fast car for almost the price of a GSR swap. That was my first choice but went B16 because of time limits. Can't complain about the setup

Depending on what kind of deals you can find i'd do B18 if you can get a swap for $1000-$1500. Any more than that and i'd go B16. You got more than that do GSR. Simple choice.

Actually I believe jerome soh of sohfast.com ran a 13.9 or so with a b18b engine.. with a gsr tranny and I/H/E mods.. in his htbk..yes the car was stripped some but hey he did it http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/thelist.html this is what he added and took out to hit that run I believe.. so a b18b is capable just as much so as your b16a =P sorry I just love my b18b...it makes driving around town very fun since u can always cruise in 5th gear =P

its a small turbo setup...the only reason i put it on is because it was basically given to me. the turbo setup i am running is a custom t25 kit...i know its small but it does its deed for as cheap as everything was. i ran my cousins car, 2k1 GSR JSRC that runs 13s and 12s w/ 30 shot nos...i didnt even know he was gonna run but he took the jump on me and then i just pulled on him like crazy...i raced him 2 times w/o NOS and he didnt even want to run me anymore because he couldnt keep up w/o the NOS. i wanted to run him w/ NOS but he only runs it on the track. he and his mechanic were very impressed at my under $2500 project. i ran it at the track and got bad results...when i ran it all motor i ran a 14.88 on the brakes trying to stay in my bracket...then when i ran it turboed i was dissappointed because the best i got was a 14.3 spinning the wheels all the way through 3rd. i know its faster than that because like i said i about whooped my cousins 13 sec car w/ just the JRSC.

the only reason i really put this post up was to prove to my friend that its not all about the motor or the car...its about how u spend your money and how to do it right.

b18b with 4.4 final drive will roll a b16a with the 4.4 final in the QUARTER MILE.....yes the b18b willl lose on top end....the tq will rock the b16....
now you put a 4.785 final in the b18b and it will really roll the b16a....

given same car same bolt ons etc....
then you put cams in

ls is gonna win!
