noob CEL question...
can you find out what CEL the car is throwing? my sister got a 97 accord v6, i would post in the accord forum, but i figure this is a universal question and i hang out here the most...thanks
Gen5 civics have a code reader under the pass side of the dash board .. you just jump the wires together and turn the key to "on" the CEL will blink the code .. long blink = 10 short blink =1 so .. 2 longs and 3 shorts = 23 or O2 sensor (if memory servers right) probley sim on accord
sorry to bring this up again, but i have a similiar question.
I got a CEL while driving, got home and unplugged the ECU and then plugged it back in. CEL went away and I havent gotten a CEL since. I think it was a soft code because i didnt go into limp mode. Did i fix the problem or did i simply prevented it from being displayed ? I know its a dumb question but im a little confused .

actually, you are correct on the 5th gen having the reader harness, but i'm almost positive that a 97 accord is OBDII. which means you will either need a scantool, or else you'll have to take it to a honda dealership and have them scan it and reset it.
as far as it goes for you unplugging the ecu, just because it went away, doesn't necessarily mean it's a "soft" code. it may be a hard code just waiting for the same circumstances to occur in which the cel came on in the first place
