My GSR is using oil
In a thousand miles the oil went from the top hole to between the two holes. The car doesn't leak and no oil in the water. It has only 86k on it but the oil is going somewhere. It doesn't smoke on startup or anything. The only weird part is when I get on it and stay on it, like stay in v-tec for a min or two, going all the way to the top of the rev band, when I come to a stop I can smell oil burning. there is no leak that I can see, but I was wondering if there is some place that it could leak that would burn and not really show up. If I don't drive hard then I don't get any smell. what kind of oil consumption is normal?
Thanks

I burn all the oil out of my car by the time I hit 3K. I hink I may be getting blow by.(piston rings). I check my oil every week and add if neccessary. I change my oil filter aboutevery 2K or so.
Are you using synthetic oil or convetional oil? Synthetic oil is know to burn up, especially Mobil 1.
convetional oil is what i am using.
- Have you tried driving 1000miles without engaging VTEC?
- Are you 200% sure you are not leaking?

I can vouch for this... I have a '97 GSR with 96k miles, and my car drinks up Mobil 1 Tri-Syn 10w30 like crazy. I just brought it into the shop last week (usual radiator problem with Hondas) so I'm getting my radiator, water pump, and timing belt replaced. The mechanic said he'll check out the valve guides and everything too... I guess I should ask him to take a look at the PCV valve since I haven't gotten that changed yet
How often is the PCV valve supposed to be changed?
edit:
to be more specific, I was adding oil at every third gas fillup (about 900-1000 miles?)

Well, when I bought my car from my uncle, he mentioned the car ate oil, and like you all said, it wasn't burning it. According to him this is due to the car having oil injectors for the pistons.
I'm not positive on this, but just thought I'd throw it out here.

-no
-well it is not leaking onto the ground, and there is no wet drips and no smoke in the engine bay.
If you wnat to know if you're burning more than normal check the plugs. You can tell a lot by the spark plugs. Also, as someone stated above, VTEC burns oil. Oil is used to lubricate the valvetrain during high rpm operation. It goes past the valves and is burned. This is normal.
