Default storage insurance for my itr

I tried search but there were no topics that helped me with storage insurance, what are some companies that will give me only comprehensive coverage with i store the car while im at college? Do i even need insurance, will home insurance cover it, i heard of people doing this before does it work? I am getting screwed by my current carrier and they wont lower my while i store my car. any suggestions would be helpful.
thanks
nick

I have Progressive. I just switched to them specifically because they allowed me storage insurance. Saves me $135/month

Do you have a loan out on the car? If so all bets are off, loan companies will require full coverage all the time no matter what. If the car is paid off, just start calling insurance companies and explain that the car will be parked and not driven for a particular amount of time etc. They should have plans to cover it.

Here in California, its called suspension of coverages. It means to suspend all coverage except comprehensive. Allstate Insurance does this.

My car was financed and I had Progressive. Just call your lendor if applicable to see what's the minimum amount of coverage they require. Tell them the vehicle will be in storage.

Progressive was able to lower my coverage to just comprehensive for the winter months.

State Farm suspends coverage, too. In the winter, I keep the comprehensive coverage but suspend the collision and liability coverage. It saves about 80 percent on insurance during that period (yes, it means insurance only costs about one fifth of what it does the rest of the year).

However, they limit the suspension to no more than six months a year.
