Might be a stupid question about ground wires...
Are engine ground wires really a performance mod. Do they help performance wise or is it just an excuse to add some colored wires to your car? Please help...

A bad ground will cause an amp to deliver a noisy and weak signal. However a strong ground will let the amp send a cleaner and stronger signal that help the amp live up to it's potential.
The same can be applied to your motor / electrical system.
article is in december Import Tuner.
They make real HP gains, and in some cars a suprising increase in hp. (like 7 hp)

i just put on a set this past weekend. i did a diy setup that grounded out the block the head the intake manifold, distributor, and water temp ground point to the battery. from what i noticed it worked well. i had a lumpy idle for no reason and it cleared it up. the car revs smoother and i have noticed some mid range power when you get on it. My headlights seem to be brighter and i did notice the dash lighting is much brighter along with my stereo's face plate. i am going to add more grounding points soon like the alternator, ecu and other common grounds in the engine bay to maximize any potential. good mod
here are some links i found that i derrived locations for grounds at http://www7.plala.or.jp/daisy9/car/t...earthing2.html

i made a post about this the other day about the sun's automobile ground wires but just got negative responses.

do you need to ground everything to the batery, or do the grounds need to go to the frame.
That is what i thought but some people will run a wire from one side of the engine bay to the other and connect to the battery. Why didn't they just connect to the frame?? Is there an advantage to this or are all grounds created equal?? Thanks

Not all the possible ground points are equal. Although I doubt it is as important to get equal potential grounds with the motor and electrical system as with an audio system. The way to check it is to get a multimeter and measure the voltage from the posative point on the batter to whatever point you are using as a ground. The voltage should be the same as if you were measuring from the pos terminal of the battery to the negative.
