A grand to spend on the R... First mods?
So I went over my financials for the next 3-4 months and decided I can afford to spend around $1000 on the R in whatever basic mods I should do to get things started. The car already has a AEM CAI, and a VAFC. I was originally thinking to go for a header and exhaust... but the R is going to be mainly daily driven, and I don't want to kill my fuel economy for a little more oomph in the car.
I'm kind of perplexed here. What is a good starting mod for the R? I figure for about a grand I could get a decent header/exhaust installed, or get a CF Hood and some rotas... I just can't really decide and don't know what else would be good for the car.
Any help would be appreciated, I need a big long mods list in my sig to be a big playa on the ITR forum apparently

depends on what you want to do to the car. do you auto-x or do HPDE's at all? I would suggest a nice header such as Toda or Spoon 4-2-1 for starters.
Right now it's just daily driven, but I'm interested in trying out all kinds of racing in the car... Gingerman is only 3 hours away..

anyways for free, set timing to 18 degrees.

$1000, hmmm, cam gears, VAFC, icebox, some dyno time. that would be good. the suspension is good enough for track work, and the brakes are fine for the street

Suspension first!!! That will bring you faster lap times than any engine mod IMO. that and some tracktime/schools.
I have soo much more fun on the street now that i know apex's..braking zones etc... And with the suspension, you can do it alot faster! The little power you increase won't matter all that much, unless you go big! Which is fun too
hope this helps any

If you have never raced before, I suggest you get into Autocross.
Especially with an R.
If you do, run the stock class for awhile with an upgraded suspension.

You just got your ITR, I would not do any mods to it until you feel like it is lacking in one area. Best mod for racing, IMHO, is tires.
If I were you I would get a set of dedicated summer/racing rims and a good street/track tire.
IE. K1's with Falken Azenis

know your R first... then mess with it. last thing you want is buying somthing that doesnt do much. i would have to agree with susp. learn to drive the hell out of it, then after susp. buy your JDM 4-1, then work internals.
I was under the impression that a good header gives an actual increase in gas mileage. Maybe im wrong. Anyway, I'd get a header, icebox, and car cover.

its his daily driver.....and the stock suspension is more than enough for starting out at autocross and track schools. More power is more fun on the street, bottom line.
Keep the stock suspension for now. If you want some more power, install a 2.5" collector header with high flow cat (or test pipe if you wish), cam gears and then dyno tune the gears and vafc. The increase in midrange is worth it. Leave the stock catback too IMO.
Leave the brakes alone as well. The ITR has more than enough braking power and suspension for the street and autox/track events (though I'd suggest different pads for the track with a higher temp range)

How about a nice driving school?
