Default New rear pads (93 integra)

hey, i just put some new AEM rear pads on my car and when i was done i took it out and was braking alot trying to notice a difference, the whole time my brake pedal felt kinda mushy, well not mushy, but just weaker, the car barely stopped as fast as it used to with its stock pads in the back (i have AEM in front). i dont know, is there a break in period for brakes? if so how long? and the other thing was, when you load the new pads in the rear i know you have the twist the piston to get it to retract, and i called a freind and he told me that i dont have to twist it back out, that it just pops back out on its own. any help is appriciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Rear brakes do very little on a fwd car. In the last month, I switched from $9 Wearever pads to Axxis Ultimates in the rear. I detect exactly zero difference in braking. Perhaps if I hooked up some sohpisticated measuring equiptment, I might see a slight marginal improvement, but nothing I can feel in teh seat of my pants.

i dont know, is there a break in period for brakes? if so how long?
I generally follow a similar bedding procedure for a track pad. I do several stops from 30mph, 50mph and finally a stop or 2 from 70. On a brandy-new set of pads, visible smoke can be seen and the brake are fading like...something that fades very much. After they cool completely, they're perfect. I did this exact procedure last week for some new Ultimates and the pedal feel is simply spectacular.

But since you're talking about rear brakes, I just don't think it's going to matter much.

and the other thing was, when you load the new pads in the rear i know you have the twist the piston to get it to retract, and i called a freind and he told me that i dont have to twist it back out, that it just pops back out on its own
Yes. just remember to hit the pedal a few times to set the piston up against the pads and you're good to go. I've forgotten this and rolled right through a stop sign once. You only forget to do that one time

ya, ive pumped the hell outta the brakes, and yes, just by messing with the rear brakes, somehow my whole car isnt stoping as good. ive driven on them for a day now, and they seem to be getting decently better, but not anywhere near id expect them to preform at.

sure would, but the pad would wear incredibly different than if it was flush agaiunst the rotor. it would wear down at an angle, and for the first 1000 miles you would be using 1/10th of the pad surface, like just a corner/edge, thats it....

you can get the caliper on with the piston mis-aligned...

did the tab on the back side (if it had one) of the brake pad slide into the piston 'x'?
