A single layer will suffice. I don't think (depending on your header's design) that you would even have enough room to double wrap ( I had to have my GF wrap mine with her smaller hands). I would wrap back as far as you can (to the cat if possible). This will keep the most heat out of the engine compartment which is your goal. If your car is lowered I would be careful. If you already have scrapes and dents in your a-pipe (pipe after 4-pipe part of the header and before cat), I wouldn't advise going back that far because it will just get torn off.. I would wrap up until the scrapes. Also be careful when changing your oil filter that you don't soak the material.
Also, I would suggest getting that high temp (silicone?) spray to coat the wrap afterwards. It will help keep moisture out and I think it looks better.
Keep in mind that it will smoke for a few hours to a few days and you will smell it. This is normal. The first day I put mine on it smoked pretty good and after some aggressive driving my catalytic converter was glowing red hot under the car. Since then I have removed it. Use pipe clamps to secure it, not those stupid metal tie-wraps that the wrap company recommends.

Also that **** will make you itch like a **** !!!

I should have wrapped mine all the way to the cat.

MAKE SURE you wrap only ONE layer with about a 1/4 inch overlap.

Wear gloves and long sleeves because the fiber glass dust will stick to your skin and burn, hurt, and itch.

Coat the header in ceramic paint first.

Yeah, and use spray stuff too.

if you have any wrap left over, let me know. I might take it off your hands.

The high temp(silicone) spray is like a clear protective coat or like some sort of paints? how many coat you put? and do i need to cover the rest of my engine bay to avoid the spray?

You coat it while the header is off the car. One coat is enough.

That high temp silicone spray is to coat the header after you wrap it. The spray I used is in this picture and it's also the wrap I bought. Don't use those metal ties you see in the pic...they suck.

You should just mask off stuff around the header with some newspaper to avoid overspray. It doesn't have to be perfect unless your going for a show look engine bay.
This is by no means perfect but it does the job. The silver look is from that high temp slicone spray. I think it looks better than just that ugly off-white wrap.

Yes it is. I'm not too concerned with looks though. What width wrap did you use? 1" ?

Has anybody had problems with wrapped headers? DC says the warranty is void if you wrap them. I don't really care about warranty but I don't want to have problems either.

i believe it voids the warranty just on a ceramic header, because it traps moisture in and can rust a ceramic header.i dont think that it would matter with a ss header, though.

BTW, does anyone know if chrome/nickel plated headers will rust if wrapped?

1".
That's what I thought. It was probably a lot easier to wrap around the bends, right?
I think next time I will try the 1" also. I don't know about them rusting. I have a ceramic coated DC and when I rewrapped it recently I didn't see any rust. After a period of years maybe but I wouldn't worry about it.

1" for primaries, 2" for straight exhaust piping is the rule of thumb.

Would there be any benifit to wrapping a CAI. I'd think that it would keep the tube from heating up in the engine bay and keep that cooler air from the inlet of the CAI from heating up.

Yes, but not with header wrap. You might want to use insulating wrap.

Nice Mine looks like crap but oh well.
BTW, that gap in the insulation by the collector may cause problems. Heat will escape, uneven heat expansion/contraction, and may allow water to get under the insulation. Also keeping all of that heat in may melt your catalytic converter to the point where it becomes completely clogged.
