Have you ever swapped a engine before?
For a first time person wanting to learn would you recommend trying to swap ones own engine with the aid of a Helm's manual or is it not that straightforward?
I would be happy being able to do my own swap or get a majority of it in, I'm not too proud to ask for wiring help if necessary.
Please compare the engine removal/install to something else car or engine related, like brake conversion or axles.
I want to do this on my own for knowledge purpose, is that so wrong?

like SHAUNTS99 said: share your experience. pictures are definitely worth a thousand words, but opinions are more easily spelled out. any little things you ran into along the way that could help first-timers (as well as more experienced folk), timeframe, costs, and when it is done DRIVING IMPRESSIONS! a gutted hf with "one a dem dubble cammer slammers!" is bound to haul.
on the progression so far.

I would recommend doing it yourself to ANYBODY wanting to learn. I did my own and am the better for it.
It's not really that hard to do. There's just a lot of stuff to do.

I completely agree I did my own swap as well and it really wasnt that bad.Just rent a cherry picker, have plenty of time incase you run into any snags and jump in head first.I think the hardest part of my whole swap was when we tried to rehook the accelerator cable.I say screw the $500 labor do it yourself thats new headers

Hmmm...it's about at hard as taking a few bolts out of the motor mounts (power-toodles help a lot), disconnecting the ECU pigtails, removing the axles, lifting the old one out, putting the new one in, re-tightening the motor mounts, re-inserting the axles and starting the car

Basically, if you can jack your car up, remove bolts, drain basic fluids, and use common sense, you can do an engine swap. You only need the manual for wiring.. oh yah, you need a lift.
I taught her how to use the hoist, I guided it in, she lowered it, it was so funny.
LOL, my mom put my engine in too!! I guided it, she dropped it in. You'd know how funny it was if you saw how small she is - she's 5' tall
