Default Installed my "J's" racing intake. LOUD as FAWK! Hatchcrap Review

Cliff Notes at bottom.

Went to my frieds shop, saw a plastic J's racing intake on the wall. Big red plastic one with the same fake c/f shield on the filter. Measured the t/b coupler and found it a little on the small side....but it was soft so I knew it would stretch over my t/b. Asked him how much he would sell it to me for, told me it was an imitation Top Fuel.... $109....so I said **** it, I'll give it a shot.

For those that don't know, I have an EK hatchcrap with B18C5. All stock, freshly rebuilt with JDM pistons. Before the J's install I was using a stock CTR airbox (airbox the same as SI, but the intake arm fits the larger t/b). I am running it with a K&N drop in air filter and a 3 inch aluminum dryer hose routed to the fender well, in place of the stock resonator box.

The CTR intake is VERY quite. I am also using a CTR catback. So the car runs very quiet. You can barely hear the vtec crossover.

After about an hour of sanding the red paint off, and another hour of spraying on some vinyl dye (wont scratch like paint) I intsall it with no clearance isssues and head out for a drive.

After getting the car warmed up, I wail on it. Holy ****. This is the loudest intake I have heard in my life. Once vtec engaged, it was SUPER loud. Can't hear a damn thing else.

I remember reading that these were quieter then AEM CAI's. I can hardly believe that. It sounds like I am running open header.

As far as power gains or throttle response? Well, I thought my car had very good throttle response. I can literally curl my toe on the gas pedal and make 5th gear passes from 75-80 mph.

I have yet to drive the car WOT through the gears so I can't say if it is any faster or slower, but I don't recognize any difference between my stock airbox.

Funny though, I didn't tell my wife what the intake was supposed to fix, but when cruising on the freeway and making a casual pass, she said, WOW, I can feel something. So go figure.

If you guys are dying for pictures, I can take some.

Cliff Notes.
Installed Plastic J's racing intake. Loud as FAWK. Can't notice any difference in throttle response. No changes in the butt dyno compared to stock CTR airbox.

I'll try to get a sound clip. The motor needs to be under a load for it to HOWL, so as soon as I can get a buddy to ride and record its a done deal.

Forgot to add, I first ran the car without the gay shield, but put the sheild on today to see if it made things a little quieter, which it didn't. So it is coming off first chance I get. The sheild rubs a little on the radiator support. But can be fixed by twisting the intake to lower it. I didn't do that because I have the bracket that it came with all bent to hell already.

Looks great. Do you think there will be any problem with rubbing?

The only thing that rubs in the shield. In order for the sheild to rub less on the radiator support, I had to push it down and it now rests on the sparkplug wire a little. But I have plenty of room under the spoon strut bar.

They only had one there as far as I could tell. The box did have AJ Racing tape all over it, so I am assuming it came from there.

The shop was Motorsport Dynamics in SAC.

Yeah, but it was a little too light in color, so I dyed it black and now its a little too dark.

Ed pulled out two of them, and they both were the light grey color.

The ***** looks the same, but my original red finish wasn't glossy like that, and I have a completely different filter. But for all practical purposes, it is the same.
