Default egr

how does the egr work in a honda. Does the computer know how much the egr is flowing or does it just know if it is working or not. If the computer just know if it is working or not i am just going to make me a plate to bock it off. If the computer know how much it is flowing i want to fool the computer in to thinking it is there but take it off. I have a 93 SE
Thanks
Chase

Why would you want to take it off? It doesn't hurt performance.

I want to disable to egr b/c i don't want exhaust gas in my intake. I think that I will gain performance out of this mod. I think that i will gain performance out of this mod b/c my intake air temp will be lower. Why do you thank ppl put cai on there car. To get lower air temp. They see performance from that why would i not see a gain from what i am doing. Also will be putting cleaner air in my intake.

debatable.. IMO. (notice the IMO)

Yes, the ECU knows the position of the valve and vacuum of the Intake Manifold at all times. Dumping the EGR properly = getting someone with a clue to rechip the ECU or swapping ECU's to one without EGR. The EGR is not always open, only under part throttle conditions for the most part. I tried for about 2 days fooling my ECU the EGR was there to no avail.. I also posted here looking for someone with a clue about disabling EGR in the ECU.

On my Ford it was easy. I have whats called an "EEC-Tuner" (its a hondata basically) and all you do is uncheck "smog equipment & egr" and viola suddenly your ECU doesnt think it has any smog equipment and wont throw codes.

I'd like to finally nail this issue down on the Accord. If anyone know SOMEBODY with a clue in the ecu rom'in biz, lets get working on this. I'm most definatly not carrying EGR over to the box intake I'm working on. ... CEL be damned.

Probobly the easiet way right now I can think of (that has been suggested to me) is find a 94-95 P74 ecu from an Integra RS/LS (no EGR) and get a Hondata to tune it right for the Accord. If anyone can verify the 94-95 Teg RS/LS had no EGR let me know. This is an expensive solution though to a 3 cent problem.

i have a 95 ex and i blocked off my egr with no problems.. i talked to jason from Tempestracing.com ( check out their tube frame prelude) and i was told that if anything there would be a gain in performance because of the cooler intake temp. no CEL goes off because the EGR is still plugged up, theres just a plate where the gasket would be.

you probobly just hung your EGR off to the side though.. that is what i like to call" Ghetto and I wont be a party to that. you ABSOLUTLY will get a CEL if you disconnect even the vacuum hose to the egr valve.. if not something you CEL must be burnt out hehe

actually .. no its not hanging off.. just because there's a block plate doesnt necessarily mean i cant bolt the egr valve over the plate.. i just said that i placed a solid plate where the gasket would be .. get it? its that simple.. the vacuum line is still connected as well as the connector.. that way it tricks the ecu into thinking that the egr is there and functioning.

thats not what we want. the object of me getting rid of my EGR are the obvious reasons + i dont like unneccissary smog equipment in my engine bay. EGR is the last one i have.. everything else is gone. i want it toally removed, including its control solenoids.

Like GimpyAccord said, the only time the EGR valve is open is under part throttle operation. Under full throttle operation, the EGR valve is closed, so it's not going to raise your air temperature.

but when the egr is open when i am just driving down the road it is heating up the intake. Which in turn makes the intake hotter. So by heatsoaking that air get hotter when the egr is closed, because the intake is hotter. I guess i am on my own here. When i fig it out i will give you a holla gimpyaccord.

having a piece of aluminum hooked to another piece of aluminum (head) which is in turn hooked to a piping hot block = its going to be damn hot anyway.
