Replacing brake pads - need shims?
The Performance Friction pads that I got at Autozone didn't come with shims, and I already installed them without the old shims. Bled fluid, etc... They seem to stop the car just fine.
Will I experience clearance issues when the pads start wearing out? Should I throw the shims back in there?

You can use the factory shims or not. They only serve to reduce noise, and offer no other performance benefit.
Other noise reducing methods are:
(1) chamferring the leading and trailing edge of the pads
(2) anti-squeal compound on the backside of the brake pad

I know it's not Honda but I put Axxis pads on my Maxima and left the shims off. After a week they squealed so loud I couldn't stand it when I used the brakes. I ended up getting some of that spray for the backside of the pad to silence them.
