I was just wondering the same thing. I have to change the alternator on be b16'd crx and I really hope that I don't need to pull the axle. But I don't know how much room there is back there to work with. I'm doing mine tomorrow, I'll let you know.
i have a ls in my hatch and all i do is unbolt the 3 10mm nuts holding the fuel rail on the manafold and slide it to the left, and loosen the 10mm bolts that hold the throttle cable on and theres enough room there to pull the alternator out. just have to get the right angle.
i have a b16a in my hatch and i didn't have to remove the alternator at all. I don't know maybe its different for the rex. I also did it on lift. But removing the axle I do't know about that fellows.
I don'y know about taking nuts off the fuel rail, but if you take off the drivers motor mount, which is only 3 bolts the motor will drop enough to slide the alt. out from the bottom.
TIP: if the alt. needs to be rebuilt you can save alot of money and do it yourself

I've got a LSVTEC in a CRX DX and I didn't have to take anything like an axle out. just loosened the bolts, took it off, put the new one on, and bolted it back up.
