Default Question about valve adjustment

I performed another adjustment today, but I wanted to make sure I am doing it right.

When you line up the crank for TDC on cylinder #1 you have the two tick marks on the cam gears to help you. However, when the tick marks are lined up, the "up" stamping isn't really up, it's leaning a little towards the front of the car, and the spokes of the cam gears are just past eachother.

The issue is, when doing Cyl #3 and #2 (I think) you don't have the tick marks to guide you, so I have been rotating the crank till the spokes of the cam gears are just past eachother, like they are for Cyl #1. Is this right?

Am I making any sense? I can post pics of that would help.

The 'UP' marking should be pointing straight up using the angle of the engine as reference. It will not be "really up" because the engine is at a tilt. The spokes of the cam gears should line up. You always have a 3rd way to check and that's using the white mark on the crank pulley and making sure it's lined up with the pointer attached to the block. When I did my first adjustment, the gears didn't line up with each other as well. I checked the crank pulley white tick mark and it was no where close to being aligned with the black pointer on the block.

The issue is, when doing Cyl #3 and #2 (I think) you don't have the tick marks to guide you, so I have been rotating the crank till the spokes of the cam gears are just past eachother, like they are for Cyl #1. Is this right?

Learning from how to line it up for Cyl #1, I just rotate it a little more so that the teeth do line up with each other.

One more thing...

There's also a horizontal line on the black piece behind the cam gears. The teeth of the cam gears should align with this horizontal mark. It's hard to do this since this mark is partially covered by the outer black cover of the cam gears.

Here, this will illustrate what I am talking about.

When the gears are alighned for Cyl #1.

When the gears are aligned for Cyl #4

Is this correct?

yes that seem correct. To help you, keep in mind that each TDC are at exactly 90 degrees from each other.
