ATS or Quaife LSD - Which would you rather have?
I've heard excellent things about the Quaife LSD, however the ATS LSD has intrigued my interest. As I'm looking to replace the diff in the stock R tranny, which would you prefer? I'm looking for opinions, as well as testimonials from those who have used either or and any tranny. Anyone who has tried BOTH, please PM me as I have numerous questions about both.

Thx.

Thx.
i have a couple friends that went the " quiafe " way, they seem to like them, and the lifetime war. is also nice! i choose oem! eric
I'm currently running the Quaife with no problems what so ever. You can't tell its there until you corner or launch hard. I believe the ATS might give you slightly better performance but there is much more maintenance involved and I believe you have to use special transmission oil.
I just put an Quaife in my car yesterday. It has been rainy so I havent really be able to go test it out. I will post a review when it clears up outside.
I did go with Quaife becuase of the lifetime warranty, and less maintenance compared to a clutch type LSD like the Kaaz amnd ATS.

The ats is hardcore. I used it for a few months. It clicks loud and is hard to steer. Performance wise it is the best lsd I have ever driven. I would not put it in a daily driven street car. the quaife is a good diff, and imo the best you can get for your street car

OK first off there is no extra maintance or special tranny oil to be used with the ATS. Its just a different gear ratio and its not that HARDCORE. I'm running it now on my daily driver and couldn't be more happy with the performance. The stock LSD is enough for a daily driven and you could benifit better from the ATS. It makes the car twice as fun to drive and it feels like a beast off the line and pulls in every gear harder (I can pass in 5th now
). The quaife may not even be noticed by your average daily driver, so I couldn't justify the price. I say ATS all the way

LSD vs FD
Man talk about confused LMFAO
I think they both have their ups and downs but I guess the type of driving to be done would be more important in the decision than anything else.
Does the ATS unit make steering effort THAT hard? Is it only in low speed manuevers or what?

For everyones clarification.. he is asking about the ATS 1.5 LSD, not FD...
there is a bigg difference...
The LSD shouldnt make much off a difference at low speeds, but it will be louder in that it does click like other clutch type LSD's. The ATS LSD can be built with different shims and depending on how many shims it is used with depends on how tow tight it will run...
And Yes, the LSD is mostly used for off the line acceleration...
FD is used to raise the engine RPM in each gear...
how this is cleared up

My Vote goes for Quaife for street driven car....you can't go wrong...the Quaife is almost twice as heavy as the stock unit.
RA who has gone from stock ITR, to KAAZ 1.5 and now finally to Quaife.....
If there is nothing with your stock one, I'd keep it, it does everything relatively well with no penalty to your pocketbook.
I'd only consider the alternatives if your car didn't have one to begin with.....or if you happened to break your stock ITR one.

yes, lsd is used off the line, but how about a 75 mph corner? the ATS allows you take a much more aggressive line.
it all depends on what you want to do with the car. full race? clutch type units are best, although much more expensive with annual rebuilding and oil costs. for the average person, a quaife will work very well.

This line bugs the **** out of me:
Is that so? Really?
I guess those rally teams and roadrace teams that use LSDs are only doing it for the start then, eh?
If that's what you really think then you have a lot to learn my friend. The main purpose for the LSD ins't for off the line traction, it is for CORNERING. Stop thinking so drag-minded with a Type R.
As far as ATS and warraties go, they suck. I had their FD in my car for 6000miles and it broke completely. All the teeth stripped off of their counter shaft and their pinion shaft didn't look so pretty either. They basically told me to go to hell because it's a race part and there is no warranty. When I say "they" I mean ATS of Japan, not Racing Craft Inc./Yasu Fukui who runs ATS U.S.A.
The Quaife unit probably won't be as effective, but is' still better than O.E ITR and has a lifetime warranty. You simply cannot beat that type of warranty on a part that will take such a beating. Quaife basically dares you to break their unit. They will warranty it no matter what. Hell they even say you can rally on it! That's probably THE worst abuse you could dish out with all of the constant loading and unloading of the diff - a stock ITR unit wouldn't last one race.
We're also comparing a clutch-type ATS to a gear type Quaife. While the ATS will perform better new, what happens when those clutches start to wear?

A) You do it yourself.... (ARGhhhhhhhhhhhhAHhhhH!!!)
B) You get your good friend to "help" you do it....
C) You pay outta your *** to have it done.
Let me see.... tranny fluid is a premium...labor is intensive for remove/reinstall....
uh.... mmmmm....
On my race car only....? The warranty on the Quaife...damn.... at least ONE part of my racer is covered.......haha...
No offence my friend
IMO , I have driven the Quaife and its only bit better over stock LSD and my idea is "no wear" means less performance.
ATS or Spoon are WAY more aggressive than Quaife , Kaaz or stock. The reason for replacing the stock LSD isn't you want more aggressive locking power ? If ppl who wants a bit better LSD , I will suggest to stay stock which will last you guys for quite a long while.

I have driven a quafie and Kaaz in my own car, and I can vouch for the effectiveness of the Kaaz (clutch type) over the gear type (quafie). I first had the kaaz and then later went with the quafie....what a mistake. Now looking to replace the quafie..anyone wanna buy a kaaz and swap me?
I have the Quaife in my car and love it. Due to the fact that my car is a daily driver, I wanted it to be quite and low matinence. If my car was a race car, I would have went with the ATS or some other clutch style LSD.
