Type R Mod Questions

Type R Mod Questions
Sup Fellas,
Okay, I've got a 2000 ITR with the following mods:
AEM CAI
Skunk 2 Cam Gears
AEM Pulleys
DC 4-1 Header
APEX N1 Shock/Coilover Kit
As for the engine mods, how much could an Apex Fuel Management/VTEC controller help my car? As in, since I have this many mods, do I need some type of adjustment done to my ECU, air, or fuel mixture to compensate for this setup vs. stock? To run at it's full potential?
Secondly, would a cam kit upgrade even be worth the money? I know that Type R cams are already quality parts, so what's the maximum power gain I could see from an upgrade vs. stock ITR cams? Estimate only. I know that if you put TODA cams on a GS-R you're talking serious gains, but what about an ITR? If I'm going to spend the money on cams, I want it to be worth it. If TODA's are around $1700 then I want at least a solid increase in torque and a minimum of 20+ HP. Now if I'm not going to get that, would the new Crower VTEC cams be a great substitute at half the cost? Or am I going to get minimal gains with these as well?
Thirdly, the Mugen ECU. Okay, this things pricey, is it worth it? Anyone have experience with this on their R's? If not, then what's a good alternative? Would the Mugen ECU work nicely with all my current mods + a cam upgrade? Or would they conflict?
Fouthly, yes, I know, I should shut up already but I'm an indecisive kind of guy...I'm getting a rubbing/squeaking type noise from my rear driver's side strut. I had the tech at Acura look at it with me up on a rack. When he pressed the wheel up and down, he got the noise. He's thinking the strut is going bad inside the shaft itself. They've only been on the car for a 1.5 years, could this be? If so, has anyone had trouble with APEX guaranteeing their products this late in the game?
Hey, thanks for your time guys, hopefully you can put my mind at ease on a few things. Take care.

Re: Type R Mod Questions (00_Type_R)
Decent brake pads, driving schools, safety stuff.
Installing go fast mods without knowing how to drive is retarded. Unforunately, I learned this the hard way. Wiseman says; "Just because you drive a fast car doesn't mean you are fast".
Jason-
who reminds you that you asked for an opinion.

Re: Type R Mod Questions (Jason Franza)
G, thanks for not answering any of my questions. Driving school? Safety? I have fun with my car, I don't drive like a maniac. Simply put, I'd like to get some more power out of the engine, not kill people. It's not like the mods I've done, or propose to look into are dangerously fast. Now if I was driving a Z06, there could be something to worry about. The R is not THAT fast, it's an awesome car, but it's got little torque and I'm just lookin' to have fun with moddin' it. I drive a lot, I've got 52,000 miles on it and I've only had it for 2 years. So you see, I spend a lot of time driving it, so I'm always looking for ways to upgrade it, because I enjoy it. So relax, I'm not a retarded driver looking to crash my car just because you might have, if that's what you were implying in your post. I have 0 accidents on my driving record since having my license at 16, I'm now 23 and I still plan to drive responsibly although my car may be quicker with each mod I install.

Remove your swaybars, p/s, a/c (optional for a street car), build your block and install a turbo kit.
You're only into straight line speed, right?

you'd be suprised how a 'not that fast' car can bite you in the *** if you dont know what you're doing, which you obviously dont.

Some people like to mod their cars for fun. Just like there are some people who like to buy stuff they don't need or intend on using it properly.

In this forum the general theory seems to be "get parts that increase some aspect of your car's performance". If you're looking to increase performance, the best start is to make full use of the equipment you've got now and work from there.
You will hear no more driving school suggestions from me. With the DC2 ITRs no longer being produced we need as many wrecked ITRs as possible so we can make more hybrids.

Some people on this board, NOTE: Some, not everyone, need to get off their high horse. Good for you, you are super serious about your car and go to driving school, I respect that, that's cool. But don't act like I'm some moron because I'm not doing exactly what you're doing with my ITR.
No, I'm not a guru about cars, I know a little, I'm learning, but so what? I don't remember Acura making me sign something that said, "if you buy this Type R, you should and shouldn't do this or that". Don't act like you're all high and mighty because you drive a Type R, it's a 24k car, get over it.
I've read over a few posts here and there at this site and I've seen some respectable enthusiasts, but I've also seen a lot of bitchy little girls who act like defensive women on their periods if someone says or does something to a Type R that they may have not. Sure, there are SOME morons out there who obviously don't appreciate their cars and literally ruin them style-wise and engine-wise, but that's not me so settle down.
Yes, I am looking for straight line speed...at this point in time. Why? Because the handling of the R is good enough for me since I'M NOT DRIVING ON CLOSED COURSES. I'm impressed every day at the handling of this car, but I am looking for more speed if possible. Does that mean that I should drive a GT Mustang? No, but why not beef up the engine if I can?
And I am making use of what I have, I've had these parts installed for a year and a half now, does that qualify me in your book to mod more? C'mon, don't be so friggin' serious, loosen up a little. I mean, what would qualify me as using my parts properly? I drive the car reasonably hard, I have a lot of fun with it, I maintain it religiously, etc. As for buying stuff I don't need...please, none of us need hardly anything material that we desire so often, weak point, don't be a hypocrite.
"you'd be suprised how a 'not that fast' car can bite you in the *** if you dont know what you're doing, which you obviously dont."
I love speed, it makes me feel alive, we all know the rush it gives us. Speed can be deadly, but I do respect limits and I know what mine are so again...relax.
"I bet you have not explore the R's real potential yet."
Explore the real potential? Doesn't seem like it's a good idea according to some people on here. I would like to see the R's real potential, but reasonably. I don't want to ruin the engine or go way too far, I want to pass smog conveniently, with little replacement of parts. I've looked into turbo but it seems that the bad outweighs the good, if it's not a turbo engine to begin with, I don't know if I want to spend all that money to make it one. I'm sure it can be done right but I'm up in the air about it for now.
Wheew, so that's it. That's where I stand on all of this. I'm not a super serious track racer, and I'm not a Horsepower-bent Mustang jock, but I do want to find a balance between the two, with common sense and safety in mind. So when I ask a question about what I can do for mods next time, try to look at it from my perspective instead of just yours for once, and it'll make more sense. It may not be your "cup of tea" but that doesn't make it "bad tea". (that quote may sound lame, didn't put much thought into it, but I think it works)

As for the engine mods, how much could an Apex Fuel Management/VTEC controller help my car?
I noticed you mentioned cam gears, have you dyno tuned your car yet? If not, you might consider adding the VAFC and a fuel pressure regulator & gauge, and taking your car to an experienced tuner. Tuning your motor could net some decent power gains that you'll be able to feel, and it will give you a "jump off" point to determine the impact of future upgrades. You might want to think about upgrading the cat and exhaust system as well. Good luck

Your question is still too vague, you need to be more specific for us to help you.
Also, why are you being so defensive? No one here insulted you.
