Mugen 1st gen vs 2nd gen strut bar
Why do people still prefer the 1st gen strut bars over the 2nd gens? Even though the first gens have 8 mounting points, doesnt it defeat the purpose by attaching the bar to the brace with a 1 bolt swivel joint?
The second gens are welded solid and seem to be an improvement.
Am I missing something? If so, please explain.
thx

i've seen the 2nd gen bar, and i own the 1st gen one. i guess most folks including myself like the fact that you get the best of both worlds in the 1st gen bar.
the 2nd gen mugen attaches only to the chassis just like the oem type r bar. however, the 1st gen not only attaches to the chassis, but also the the front suspension mounting points....similar to the way cusco and spoon designed their bars which only mount to the sus points...therefore there is a combining of the 2 in the older 1st gen design.
so, even with that "swivel joint", you can see why there is a preference for the older one, even though mugen according to King says the newer one is better. in addition to that, the mugen bar is husky in size compared to others on the market, so that might make a difference also as far as rigidity, but i can only guess...no scientific data here..
. however, i did feel a difference in stiffness between my stock bar and the mugen one as soon as i drove off after installing the mugen. hope this helps. i wouldn't hesitate to buy if you can find a 1st gen one btw...

Jet: thanks much for the input. I am thinking about buying a used one because they cant be found anymore. Is there anyway to tell the original 1st gen from the cheap copies like this one?
Are the braces any different on the original?
jonas: That Carbing bar is a beast! But it would not fit with my FI setup

if the one you found is true mugen, you'll know. besides, the current 2nd gen looks identical to the 1st, only the attachment part is different...

Well I just saw it and damn I cant tell if its a fake or not. Are the brackets like the pic I posted above the same on the real ones? Somebody said that the shock tower mount is a full circle on the real ones and this one is only 3/4 of a circle like the pic above. Somebody has to know.........tia
