Rumors of next year's SCCA cage specifications
Please note that this is second hand information - I let my SCCA membership lapse and no lonber get Sportscar
An IT racer friend of mine told me at the Thursday night autocross that for 2003, the SCCA cage specifications have changed in two important ways (cars already built and logbooked will be grandfathered in):
1. NASCAR bars will be required on the driver side and optional on the passenger side
2. ERW tubing is not allowed
Can anyone confirm this?

The ERW rule is already in the books - no new cars with ERW cages will be issued logbooks. Current cars are grandfathered.
I have not heard anything about the NASCAR bars. I tend to doubt it, as it would require gutting SS and Touring cars (which the SCCA has been very reluctant to do).

ERW tubing is indeed not going to be accepted for newly registered cages - this applies across the board. The NASCAR door bar requirement is for the national club racing Touring classes (T1, T2) but not the regional-only Improved Touring category. Actually, the new rules are creating a set of cage requirements just for these cars, some of which are WAY too fast, frankly, for OEM-type construction. Nobody asked me, however.

For Solo II they still might allow the ERW, have to wait and see which rule book the Solo II roll bar rules are based on (The Solo rules roll bar spec for Stock classes or the GCR) FASTRACK also mentioned a requirement for a diagonal bar in addition to a 4pt roll bar...Diagonal bar can be bolted in, but must be installed...
