Default how do you wire sidemarker so that it'll lit on and blinks with the blinker ?

I tried the blinker lights (3 wires), one pos, one neg and one is the blinker signal...

if I hook it up to the blinker signal, ity stays off and only blinks when blinker's activated..

if I wired it to the pos wire, it'll stay on the whole time ..

the side marker only have 2 prongs, pos and neg...

TIA

to make it stay on, and to make it blink, you need to do this:
the sidemarker should have 2 wires going to it.
splice the "high power" and "low power" wires to it (the original blinkers have 3 wires... one's low power (parking light), one's high power (actual blinker), and 1 ground).
that way, the sidemarker will stay on, and blink when signaling. good luck!

Yep, that's right. However I think it look kinda wierd (I had them that way on my old car). I also think that having the light stay on w/ the parking lights will make the sidemarker lenses start to fade. I would leave them as turn signals only, looks better IMHO.

hook up to power wire for turn signal, and to ground.

Do you know how to wire them so they blink opposite to the corners?

Sidemarker on, corner off, corner on, sidemarker off.. etc

Well they will be activated when you signal, just off sequence..

when you have the parking lights off, they blink together.... when you turn on the parking lights, they blink alternately..... i don't think there's anyway to always make it blink alternately, but if someone can prove me wrong, i'd like to know for reference.... i think it would be more trouble than its worth though, l8rz

Sounds like you'll need a relay wired up.

Do OEM CTR and ITR sidemarkers stay on all the time, or do they just blink when you signal a turn?

I don't believe CTR and ITR have side markers stock. Only JDM.

Let's try this again:

Here's a THEORY, someone with better electrical knowledge correct me if I'm wrong before someone blows something up.

Wire your sidemarker positive(+) into your the positive(+) parking lights. Wire the ground(-) of the sidemarker into the postive(+) of your signal light.

That way with the park lights on you will send power to the sidemarker then to the non-lit turn signal bulb, thru the filament and straight to ground. When the turn signal is on, current will flow to the signal light and you would no longer have a path to ground for the sidemarker (the light will go out). This way your light will blink opposite your signal light.

With the park lights off, you will only blink thru the sidemarker in sync with the turn signal lights. This happens because now you are basically tapped into the signal light, current will flow thru the sidemarker and back to ground thru the non-lit park light filament in the bulb.

Anyone care to explain whether or not this will work? My theory is current won't flow from positive to postive so it can't go back into the sidemarker.

I don't know of any stock car that has side markers that they stay on all the time.

the answer to the quesiton is no, only people who want to have them stay on will wire them as such, but there is no car from the factory that has always on sidemarkers.

Yep, it would be fairly easy to do with a $5 relay from Radio Shack.

yep that is how you do it. Older Subarus and RAV4's had sidemarkers that stayed on, but they did not flash. Having them stay on w/ parking lights will make the lenses fade... ask me how I know.

Mine fade from a dark, deep amber to a light fadish amber over time.
Strongly considering LED's.. as soon as I can find some decent ones.

Is that with the setup where your sidemarkers are always lit?

yeah, but when I was referring to fading, I meant with the clear sidemarkers I used to have... the lenses turned kind of yellowish. However I have seen stock OEM VW's w/ clear sidemarkers in which their lenses have faded, too. Maybe that just means don't get clear sidemarkers.

get the transparent paint and paint them orange is what I'd recommend.

Just wondering will this work correctly

To make them blink off seqeunce you have to wire the sidemarker to the front half of the bumper light. When the lights are off all 3 of your signals will blink together( sidemarker, outer corner of bumper light, front bumper light) When you have the parking lights on the sidemarker and the front bumper light will be on while the outer corner of the bumper light will be off. And they will blink alternately. I have it wired up like this on my teg and just abotu every other car I had in the past. leaving them to stay on doesn't look too good to me.
