Default OT:Auto to Manual Conversion

Hey Guys and Girls,

I would just like to share with this community that I'm finally doing my auto/manual... I started at about 930pm last night, worked until 545 am... and i've finished just 18 out of 25 step to take out the auto tranny...

I HATE AUTO TRANNIES.. IT LICKS #(*)$&U#@($&#@

I'm sorry, but I've got cuts all over my arms/hands etc.... the worst part is that it takes so long, i hleped myt buddy change a clutch in about 2-3 hours yesterday right before it... so i was thinking wow, its pretty fast.. manual tranny off.. clutch goes in.. manual tranny on... and only 2 -3 hours.. wiht no power tools,

so i was expecting for my auto pos to drop out fast.. but its a lot harder.

anyways, just thought to keep you ppl posted, and I am taking pictures, and IF this works out properly, i'll try to write up a DO IT YOURSELF step by step auto - manual swap...

Would like to give thanks to all SHAMOO and i forgot the other dudes user name that have helped me get along this way...

by the way... how come the auto intermediate shaft looks exactly like the manual intermediate shaft?

sorry mods if this is a junky post, i was very happy to get started, and would like to share what im doing with the automatic owners... remove it or lock it if you feel that it is necessary!

Yah im taking a few pictures... IT IS A VERY VERY VERY VERY PAINFUL PROCESS..
i started out today at about 3ish?and just stopped around 2am just now...

WORD OF ADVICE.. if you are doing this.. MAKE SURE you have a 17 mm 12 point socket for your air gun or power tools... there is about 8 of this on the automatic "so called flywheel"(i forgot the exact name)

I ran around town trying to look for that POS 12 point socket, and no one caries it anymore...

as of today, i managed to get the entire auto tranny out... switched in auto pedals to manual pedals... very very slow day due to STUPID socket...

ohyah.. PLEASE TAKE OUT YOUR FRONT SEAT if your doing the pedal swap... IT IS SO PAINFUL.. me and my friend were very lazy in doing so... my back will be sore tommorrow for sure... but the 3rd pedal looks nice in there

anyways, hopefully get the manual tranny in and all the other miscellaneous junk such as master/slave etc tommorrow...

to those that will try this at home... REMEMBER THIS IS THE HARDEST PROJECT you'll probably EVAR do... well it is for me, considering i have mediocre mechanic skills... thank goodness for the pictures int he factory service manual oh yah.. haha...

keep you guys posted tommorrow night...

by the way, im located in canada and im doing this auto manual for a 94 integra

what kind of tranny you putting in..you need to get rid of that tranny mount, i had to break it off, because it sat 2 inches higher, i also had to drill two bolts in to the bottom center console, to hold the shifter into place...remember to run the hardline also...(doing that will be pain)...keep us updated...

well so far today, its been running around town looking for screws bolts etc AGAIN... it is so hard to find a set of snap ring pliers for the manual tranny...
i need this snap ring pliers to put this manual tranny back together... i took it apart....

but as for progress, the shifter is in place, and like leimokei said, you have to drill two bolts for the shifter... shift linkage so all taken care of, flywheel is in.. clutch is in... and pressure plate is in... i had to eye ball the clutch.. i hope it works.. i dont have an alignment tool, but i remember ppl saying you can eyeball it.. if its not correct..the tranny wont go in...

as for the tranny mount, when i get there, i'll work on it then...

but as for stuff left to still do later tonite after a break and dinner..
install intermediate shaft, put back up cat and header(stock)...

then hopefully get the manual tranny back together... i hate not having the right tools.. that stupid ring is impossible..

so word of advice.. DO NOT TAKE APART YOUR TRANNY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING (which i didnt and make sure you have the PROPER snap ring plier, not any snap ring plier will do)

also.. leimokei: you mean hardline as from the clutch hose to the master cylinder right?

Can I ask the inevitable question? Why didn't you just sell your auto to some riceboy and buy a manual?

yah its pretty much like heart surgery... haha its all assumptions and from a service manual...

as for selling my automatic car to buy the manual car, its too much of a hassel..
my car is a 94.. its old.. but the engine has never been beat on ... my aunt drove this.. for a 8 year old car.. its got only 60XXX miles... the interior is like still brand new.. and i know everythign that has happened to this car...
whereas if i buy a manual.. i'll have to sell this car to get money first.. then i'll be carless.. and i may not find a good condition integra... but i guess its just that i have attachmetn to this car haha..

but yes.. when im done.. i'll post a few pictures.. i dont have a picture of me doing EVERYTHING.. i took pictures after every successful completion of a task...so with that.. and a serivce manual and helms.... you guys should be set

"by the way, im located in canada and im doing this auto manual for a 94 integra"

YIPEE!!! I'm going to be doing the same exact swap! Same car! 94 Integra. Maybe you could help me out? Not as in the labor but if it's not to much to ask, can you give me EVERY SINGLE PART that i willl need for this swap? LIke kinda like this

1. 5-Speed Tranny
2. Clutch Master Cylinder
3. Extra Pedal
4. etc.......

I would really, really appreciate it. I wanna start buying the parts now, so that I can do the swap in a couple of months or so. Oh, one more thing, I know someone who is selling his 93 LS tranny with 50 k on it for a really good price. Would i loose any power or sacrifice any potential of my current 96+ LS motor? Is it worth it to buy his 93 LS b18a tranny? Or should I just get a b18b tranny? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yah of course i could help out a fellow honda-tech bro... i will come up with the parts list when im all done... im going to try to do a very very detailed process of what my friends and I did...

as for your question about the tranny... im sorry but i dont know too much about the difference between 93 and 94 and up trannies... my only advice to you is decide what you plan to do with your car in the future... when you have decided what you plan to do with the car NA/ forced induction/ bone stock with just stick, then decide on the tranny.

dude. why are you guys all doing auto to manual swap? why did you stick with the auto in the first place? i'm going to stick with mine forever. no manual swap for me, only a Greddy Turbo Kit left and i'm set.

Well the auto tranny makes it dog slow in acceleration compared to the manual tranny...like around 1 second more for 0-60mph. There was a huge difference in feel of the car when I swapped the automatic in my '90 GS for a 5-speed manual...it wanted to go more and do more it seemed. Once you swap to a manual transmission integra you'll wonder why you even thought of buying the auto...

Now I'm going for a really hard swap - Front engine and FWD to Mid Engine and RWD....that should be fun...

yes i referring to the hardline running clutch hose to master cylinder...when ur doing the swap, if its just another LS tranny it should fit right up to the tranny mount on the automatic...i had swapped my for a ITR tranny and it sat about 2inches higher, so i had to get the mount from Acura...but a word of precaution, taking off the stock automatic tranny mount is a biatch..i had to drill about 6-8 holes, then pry that mount until it broke off...so do this when the motor is out...just letting you know ahead of time...
i have pictures of my completed swap...if you guys want to see let me know
