Spark Plugs...HELP PLEASE, need recommendation
After building up my motor, I need to get new plugs. I was told by my mechanic to get plugs that are NOT PLATINUM, and 1 heat range hotter than stock. He recommended NGK BKR5EY11 plugs, which I believe are made for the Acura Vigor. These plugs are very hard to find and will take several days before anyone local has them in stock. Anyone know a similar plug I could go with? My application is NATURALLY ASPIRATED, 12.X CR with JUN 3's. I need them ASAP, TIA for any advice or suggestions.
I use these plugs in order of preference:
NGK PFR7G-11
NGK PFR6G-11
NGK BKR7EVX-11
I would say start with the 6s, and if you are getting a lot of uncontrollable
detonation, then move to 7s, but i run 6s a lot of the time and have no problems
with compression higher than yours.
No platinum?? wtf.....

I would have thought you would need 1 heat range cooler than stock with the increased pressure in the combustion chamber.
Ever try the VX plugs? 1/3 the cost of OEM and still has a platinum tip.

thx....i dont remember exactly what the reason was the he doesnt want to run platinum plugs, and I dont know enough about it to speculate. Im just going by what he says. He definitely knows his **** and Im certainly nobody to question it.
Steve, which ones of those are hotter? Im guessing he wants them hotter for now to burn off some of the extra fuel until I can get it tuned out on the dyno.

burn off extra fuel?? have this guy tune the idle FIRST before the car goes anywhere

45psi is over 440cc since they are rated at *43*psi.
You cannot run injectors that large even at 30psi.
Dont be an idiot. put your stock injectors back in.

I don't know if its true, but I heard that platinum spark plugs don't give as much spark(power) as copper spark plugs. Platinum is used so the plugs last longer.
Which may or may not be the reason why his mechanic dosen't recomend platinum

Steve I appreciate your help, but Im trying to understand why he made such a big deal with going with the 440s and you are telling me to put the stock injectors back in. As I said in my PM, he seems to think that the extra fuel(after tuning) will help to keep the pistons cool, and running the stock injectors would not be enough and I would run lean and have detonation. Please, can you explain your logic on why I should stay with the stock injectors and if so, how much fuel pressure can the stock injectors handle and what kind of fuel pressure should I run? Maybe I am missing something here, but Im just trying to understand this. Thanks
Unless you are going to use some sort of standalone, you CANNOT use 440s.
Most you could go is 310s and an AFC/SFC.
440s simply flow too much fuel. You cant lower the pressure enough to make it
drivable. Plus you get the added bonus of causing the rings to lose their seal.
You need to put the stock injectors back in for the car to be drivable without
doing damage to the motor itself. Maybe you havent been around long enough to
see all the threads about this.
Now i would love to know who is doing the work for you.

Platinum and Iridium have way better igniting power.
I use BKR6E-11 (2756) which is the copper version of the one steve listed above.
With spark plugs I don't think the issue is Platinum vs. Copper. Rather I think the main issue is laser tip vs. standard electrode.
Thanks for everyones replies. I want to make clear that I WILL BE using the AEM EMS unit. The plan for that WAS to have it installed on Sept 9th and get it tuned that same day on the dyno. The reason I posted this whole spark plug thing is to see if I could just get the motor running before I get the tuning done so its broken in some, rather than putting a freshly built motor on the dyno. It looks like Im just going to have to have the tuner install the AEM, and get it running smoothly, and then make another trip down for some fine tuning after I get the chance to break in the motor some. Thanks again
