idle goes up, down, up, down etc on my b16
b16 in 91 civic standard
idles at 3000 rpm when the motor is started.
jumps from 800 rpm to 1500 to 800 to 1500 etc when it is warm. it sounds like i keep revving it up.
is this a vacuum line problem? fuel problem?

check your TPS and make sure all vacume lines are where they are supposed to be. You might want to just get a new TPS and if that dosen't work just take it back.
good luck

my car does the same ****. only problem i can think of in my situation is this:
coolant temp sensor
guage cluster. si trans, i dont think the speed sensor in the stock cluster is calibrated to that of the si trans's speed sensor

no codes.....
i have heard of people cleaning their IACV to help their idle. anyone ever do this.

I cleaned my iacv valve twice, it helps for about a month. First narrow it down to make sure its that, then go buy a new one.
For some weird reason, JDM B16's have the most gummed up IACVs of all Honda engines I mess with.
I think a new IACV should be in the parts list for a JDM B16 swap, right up there with a new timing belt and water pump.
Get one from a 90-93 integra or 88-91 CRX/Civic.

is the b16 IACV the same as the IACV from any 88-91 civic/crx motor?
is this for sure the problem?

It's the same except the ones in CRX DX or Civic standard.
If the engine is a DPFI, you cannot use it.
Get the IACV from any 90-93 integra.
Or a 88-91 CRX HF or Si.
or 88-91 Civic Si or EX.
And yes, a new IACV will fix your idle problem, provided you don't have any vacuum leaks.

i replaced the IACV with one from a 91 d16a6...didn't fix the problem...i also cleaned up the pcv valve.
same problem....start the car and it idles at 3000, then when it warms up just goes back and forth between 800 and 1500...
any other ideas? please, this makes me not want to drive my car.
o2 sensors? tps?

crxhfi, you are the ****.
took the intake off and halfway plugged the fast idle valve hole and the idle evened out...took off the metal plate and there was the plastic thingy all unscrewed...screwed it back in (had to push hard) and now the idle is PERFECT.
problem is I forgot to put the metal plate back on and when i went for a drive it flew out of my engine bay and i couldn't find it.
is there a fast idle valve plate on the d16a6? is it the same as the b16? i just need the metal plate and the two 8 mm bolts.

There is a flat head screw on your throttle body. It faces the passanger side of the car. Try adjusting this screw then reset your ECU. I had the same problem last week. This fixed it.
turn it in as tight as you can by hand...then replace the metal cover.

The actual procedure (this came from a friend who is a mechanic at honda) is to screw the IAVC screw all the way in, then back it off 2 1/2 turns.
