Can you make a '94 Civic VX fast???
My buddy you bought a '94 vic VX model with the VTEC-E engine. I noticed how small everything is like the throttle, plenum, arm going from the throttle to the airbox. Which they probably did for the economical reasons. I heard in the past that aftermarket doesn't make nothing for this model/engine as far as performance goes. Is this true??? Other than the engine this model is very similiar to the CX (no rear wiper, side molding, etc...). Which is good grounds for a swap! For the mean time while he saves up, I was just wondering if there was anything he can do to make it a little faster. So he can maybe come close to keeping up with my gsr LOL.
VTEC-E motors have already been mod'ed. They are modified to run VERY lean fuel mixtures. Common sense should tell you the VTEC-E isn't a good candidate for further modification. Sorry for the overused cliche, but you're better off doing a swap.
Having said that, juice and a tranny swap will work wonders on this engine. Neither one costs very much. Other than that, forget it...

you can make it fast.. my vx now does 14.7@96.. 2.1 60ft times.. it has aem intake, 5zigen catback, fields vtec controller(vtec kicks pretty hard..!!), zex nitrous.. i mean.. i'm estimating about 95 whp.. pretty good... it feels great to kick peoples *** with a lil vx.. amazing how people aww at my lil d15z1..
zex nitrous-$275.. 5zigen catback-$150.. aem intake-$75.. the look on their faces when the d15z1 kicks the **** outta the gsr, si, and even sometimes hybrids-$ PRICELESS

NOS Ownz!
Don't mean to rain on your parade, but he said "fast". I don't consider 96-MPH to be fast. Did you think he said "quick?"
He wants the VX guy to "keep up" with his GS-R.

after filling the bottle a few times BOOM because you didnt do a fuel steup.
swap in any kind of B-series and it will be fast!
B18B = quick
B16A = quicker
B18C1 = faster
B18C5 = much faster
H22A = major torque!

How did you get that intake on there? Did you have to change out to a different plenum and throttle to compensate for the larger intake tubing? I noticed my buddys VX stock intake arm is damn small! Is your engine built for the nos? If not how is it holding up to the nos? Im impressed on your times on that car, my buddy will be excited to hear your times.
I was told if he swapped a ex sohc ecu for the fuel problem he would have some gains! Is this true? Has anyone tried this??? Also can he replace the plenum with a like say a dx, which he would have to replace the fuel rail, larger throttle. With all this and the ex sohc ecu you think he would have any gains? I know the best way out for him is a swap. Since he just bought the car, its gonna be awhile for that to happen. In the mean time i was just courious to learn more about this vtec-e.
Hmmm i only had 5mph more in the quarter in my car, yet i ran almost 2 seconds faster. Interesting. Damn slicks lowering my trap speeds!!!
Just get a swap, screw the single cam. On the other hand, i know a single cam CRX that runs 10's all motor. Theres actually a pic of his car on my links main page. Of course i don't think its 1.5 liters

i know he said fast.. but my times are pretty fast for a vx mang.. gotta admit.. the vx has gone through about 4 bottles.. the fuel problem is no matter to me.. i'm running the fields so i can bump up fuel.. it's not the best but it works.. my car runs pretty rich also.. as for the intake, i just kept tightening the clamp till it was on the tb
hehe.. that thing is like 1.5".. it's tiny.. hehe.. but it's a fun lil vx... i just fixed up the vx a bit to see what kinda times it would do.. shocks alot of peeps...

we put rubberbands around the tb to give it a bigger diameter, and clamped the silicon tubing(or whatever it is with the cai) down hard around it. made a big difference.

no problem. It's not like he's got major work done to it:
'96 GSR with '00 front end conversion
wingless
iceman cold air
greddy headers
VAFC
Skunk short shift
ACT 4puck clutch

The VX is a neatly designed engine. If you can get a bigger throttle body, bigger intake plenum, exhaust manifold, and upgrade the fueling (dramatically) it would be reasonable. Fast? Hmmm. Depends on your definition. 14 seconds would certainly be attainable, but it would be difficult to get much more.
